  • Overview

    The Vice President & General Manager, Environmental Health Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) division directs, plans, and coordinates activities globally for the EHSS division. The VP&GM is responsible for the global financial performance of the division.  Accomplishes corporately established strategic and operational goals including budgeting, financial objectives, market growth initiatives, operations, business models, partnership models, and employee engagement. Works with VP, Commercial to drive marketing and sales for the EHSS product lines and VP, Software Engineering for software development. Develops, recommends and implements profitable growth strategies for all product lines within the EHSS industry.  Responsible for preparation and finalization of global budgets and forecasts.   Provide leadership and guidance to EHSS employees currently at three major sites – Franklin, Tennessee, Princeton, New Jersey, and Cambridge, United Kingdom to ensure a high level of customer and employee satisfaction and profitable business performance.  Works across divisions and regions to optimize the business model focused on growing recurring SaaS subscription revenue. Creates and maintains brand awareness and focus on public safety globally for UL.  Reports to the President, Software Business Unit.

    • Develops and implements the EHSS strategy including the product portfolio, product roadmap and overall strategic goals for the business division
    • Sets and achieves financial business targetsincl. profitability targets.
    • Aggressively evaluate the market with an eye to growth organically as well as potential acquisitions, and participate in acquisition evaluations
    • Ensures success and future growth and scaling of the business by effectively driving and balancing the multiple strategic objectives of globalization, quality and financial strength.
    • Applying best practices, and develops metrics to maximize efficiency and boost performance, and regularly evaluate success of initiatives (ROIC).
    • Actively engages clients and manages end-to-end client experience in order to provide world-class customer service.
    • Engages and motivates division employees globally with a common business division strategy, sense of purpose, and shared objectives for UL EHSS.
    • Builds a strong and internationally capable management team, including developing bench strength for long term succession planning focusing on the internal development of high potential employees wherever possible.
    • A member of the UL Software leadership team, who sets the overall strategy and direction for the Business Unit
    • A member of the UL Officers team as well as the G30 Operations team of UL across the BUs

      • Customer Support

    • Successful, well‑rounded executive with a University degree and typically 15‑plus years of general international management experience in dynamic high technology or software industry. Experience in the EHS (Environmental Health & Safety), Sustainability industries or GRC/ERM experience preferred.
    • Proven P&L management experience driving sustainable and profitable growth.
    • Passion and deep understanding of product management practices associated with market investment decisions and accelerating time to ROI for new software features or product launches.
    • A resourceful, decisive, and dynamic leader. An individual with a strong sense of purpose, integrity, "hands‑on" management style, cultural sensitivity, but also a compelling desire to succeed. Possesses a healthy level of impatience with the status quo, but can execute the required culture change globally without serious damage to employee engagement.
    • A keen intellect with superior strategic skills, proven general management, leadership abilities and strong commercial orientation.
    • Organizational savvy, ideally having successfully led in a global matrixed organizational structure.
    • Outstanding motivational and coaching abilities; a team builder and leader; one who can inspire an organization to reach superior levels of performance.
    • An innovative and resourceful problem solver with a strong entrepreneurial bent; an individual who is firm and decisive in addressing difficult issues, and can operate effectively in fast‑paced and demanding environments.
    • Sensitive to Public Safety, and has concern for the greater social good.
