    UL is currently seeking a motivated electrical engineer for our Life & Health Sciences team in the Fremont, CA office. The current position is for entry level engineer. This position provides a small business feel with all of the support, resources and other benefits of a large corporation.

    Under general supervision, manage and execute engineering safety investigations for a wide variety of cutting edge medical products, laboratory equipment and other devices. Conduct investigations by analyzing scope, product specifications, designing testing programs and physical examination of samples for compliance with global UL safety requirements. Publish safety reports for clients and issue authorization to apply the UL mark. Engineers may also assist in the development of UL requirements, test methods, or test equipment. Potential candidates must be prepared to work in a laboratory environment.

    Job Responsibilities: 

    • Determine project scope, cost, completion times and sample requirements by analyzing client input, product construction, mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. Projects may include travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
    • Communicate directly with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures, convey cost, negotiate completion dates and sample requirements.  
    • Become familiar with applicable standards, company procedure and appropriate technical literature. 
    • Evaluate customer products for compliance with UL requirements, and communicates areas in which the product is not in compliance. 
    • Conduct and/or coordinate laboratory activities such as scheduling, fixture building and execution of test programs.
    • Maintain a proactive approach in keeping up to date with changes and revisions to existing standards and regulations as well as new standards.
    • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering 
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
    • Ability to work in a laboratory environment.
    • Ability to travel
    • Ability to interact and connect directly with customers
    • Ability to work in a cross functional, remote team environment
