    Under general supervision, the Senior Software Developer analyzes, develops and modifies complex software programs. Leads project teams to define specifications for complex software programming applications and modifies existing applications. Supports business leadership in the analysis of software and hardware system needs, options, risks, costs and impact on business processes and goals.

    • Develops and modifies complex information system programs. Leads project teams and defines specifications for complex software programming applications and modifies existing applications.
    • Performs complex analysis of system requirements, preparation of specifications, designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting. Implements complex requirements for multiple platforms, operating systems, and applications.
    • Resolves problems by devising or modifying procedures.
    • Monitors progress of larger software based projects by tracking activity, resolving problems, publishing progress reports, and recommending actions.
    • Improves systems performance by investigating problems, developing specifications, identifying trends in technology, and recommending solutions
    • Works on project teams, formulating and defining specifications for complex software programming applications and modifies existing applications.
    • Performs other duties as directed.
    • Effectively utilize Agile Development methodologies and participate in the full lifecycle of software development to include technical design, coding, testing, and delivery of products.
    • Perform related support activities to correct defects and refactor the code base, as well as maintain proper coding standards.
    • Give technical support to internal and external users.
    • General maintenance of the software.
    • Support the management of the Software Development Life Cycle process for existing and new product development.



    • University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline plus generally seven years of directly related experience.
    • Advanced technical knowledge and/or software development experience.
    • Advanced working knowledge in software application or specific program language requirements of software work.
    • Ability to gather, organize and interpret data and multi-disciplinary processes, particularly related to engineering, meteorological and/or modeling tasks
    • Exceptional computer programming skills and demonstrated proficiency in software development to include C/C++, Linux, PHP (or other web development language), MySQL or PostgreSQL (or relational database), JavaScript, CSS, HTML.  Proficiency with Ultimate++ is also useful.
    • Primary Software: CentOS 6.x, PostgreSQL, PHP, CodeIgniter, Apache, jQuery, Angular.js, CSS, HTML.

    • Other Software Packages: WordPress, Fortran/C/C++(GNU), R, Selenium, Jenkins, rpmbuild, YUM, Google Maps, Bing Maps, HDF5, GIS data formats (rasterized and vector data).
