    As part of the Technical Support and Calibration team, the Lead Metrology Specialist will provide technical leadership for our outsourced calibration program for the Laboratory Shared Services organization. Oversee and drive the day to day  calibration related activities for the campus of large testing organization. Working with internal customers, external calibration vendors and peers, to meet accreditation requirements and the needs of the organization. Driving improvements in accuracy and efficiency while maintaining the integrity of the organization and create and initiate the monthly equipment recalls.

    • Manage and organize the onsite calibration of equipment by external vendors.
    • Manage and organize the calibration of equipment sent out to external vendors.
    • Develop good working relationships with our external calibration vendors.
    • Prioritize the vendors work to best meet the needs of the organization.
    • Initiate out of tolerance evaluations.
    • Be the central point of contact for technical questions from our calibration vendors.
    • Identify and select the accredited calibration vendors needed to meet our equipment needs.
    • Perform and record regular verifications of scopes of accreditation of our calibration vendors.
    • Establish calibration profiles and intervals.
    • Regularly access the accuracy of our equipment database and drive improvements when needed.
    • Represent the team in accreditation audits.
    • Develop and drive process improvements.
    • Be the local organization’s calibration liaison to other UL lab locations.
    • Be an active member in our North American Measurement Assurance Team.
    • Represent the team’s interest in the modification and development of global and regional procedures and work instructions.
    • Train and assist lab personnel in the use of equipment.
    • Reviews test standards and help with the identification of equipment to meet the requirements.

    Performs other duties as directed. Including but not limited to:

    • Support the testing labs by developing measurement of uncertainty budgets for tests.
    • Manage service vendor activities for the labs that are within our responsibilities.
    • Perform routine maintenance of designated test equipment.
    • Provide back up support for other team members during absences.


    Some University education in Engineering or a related discipline plus six years directly related experience required. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service. Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality. Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor more junior laboratory staff.
    The preferred candidate will also possess:

    • Military GCAMS / ACTS / METCAL / TMDE / PMEL / MOS training OR ASQ CCT.
    • Experience with measurement uncertainty budgets.
    • Fluke MetTeam experience.
