    The Lead Regulatory Engineer will:


    • Provide UL staff and others with technical expertise regarding equipment intended to be installed in accordance with the model building codes (IBC, IRC, IMC, IPC, IFGC, UPC, UMC).
    • Lead code and standards development activities as directed to help achieve UL business and public safety related objectives.
    • Interact with internal and external parties to advance organization positions, and to identify new regulatory related business opportunities for UL.
    • Plan, conduct and supervise code and regulatory related projects of major magnitude and scope.
    • Provide expert advice in all technical areas of the department and assist in the development of Regulatory Services plans and projects as directed.
    • Work with UL staff in other departments to improve the ways in which certification information is presented in order to enhance UL’s reputation as the premier product certifier in the world.
    • Resolve complex code and certification related issues.
    • Represent UL at meetings for outside organizations, and provide presentations on a variety of code and certification related technical topics.


    • Engineering Degree or minimum of 12 years work experience related to the interpretation and enforcement of the Model Building Codes (IBC, IRC, IMC, IPC, IFGC, UPC, UMC) and the standards called out within those codes.
    • Detailed knowledge of the Model Building Codes and how they are utilized in North America.
    • Ability to speak in group/panel situations; must be able to actively advocate and defend UL’s stance on regulatory compliance issues.
    • Ability to innovate successful solutions to resolve problems associated with code, standards and/or certification related issues.
    • Detailed knowledge of Built Environment industry issues, needs, and challenges.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent Presentation skills.
    • Ability to travel (up to 30%).
    • Preference for candidates in locales where UL has a major office, but there is flexibility to be located in candidate’s regional area for uniquely qualified candidates.
