    Responsibilities

    This position is in the Finance Shared Services unit of UL and provides accounting services to UL Software as a Service businesses.  Under general supervision, performs general accounting work in one or more Global Finance areas. Analyzes accounts and reports as well as prepares financial statements, budgets or statistical reports. Reconciles general ledger accounts. Assists in the development and implementation of department policies, procedures, and programs in assigned areas. Advises management and employees in areas of expertise. Assists customers and other constituents.

    • Performs general accounting work requiring originality and ingenuity with some latitude for un-reviewed decisions, in assigned areas.
    • Performs month-end close duties and account reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Applies fundamental accounting concepts and practices in assigned areas. Works with supervisor on unusual matters.
    • Communicates with management and employees regarding issues in accounting and recommends solutions. Explains and interprets department policies, procedures, and practices. Assists customers and other constituents.
    • Assists in the development of new or revised policies, procedures, and programs by performing research and analysis. Develops recommendations concerning procedures and program features.
    • Respond to information requests from within the business, internal audit and external audit.
    • Conduct account/transaction analyses for financial statements to ensure proper classification and coding. Review input documents/account activity, verify proper coding of accounts and make adjustments, as needed.
    • Ensure all entries are posted and all allocations are correct and posted. Assist other accountants in close process, as necessary.
    • Understanding that workload will adjust based on accounting cycle (month, quarter and year end).
    • Communicates with outside agencies or organizations to obtain or exchange information.
    • Develops and maintains working knowledge of advanced concepts in assigned areas. Develops an awareness of how decisions made in assigned areas impact work in other functional areas.
    • Stays abreast of current trends, and practices in area of specialization.
    • Performs other duties as directed.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus a minimum of two years general accounting experience required. (Public accounting a plus)
    • General knowledge of accounting practices/procedures
    • This position must have excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete in an efficient and accurate manner
    • Strong problem solving skills, excellent analytical and computer abilities
    • Self starter, takes tasks/problems given to them and seeks out solutions
    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility satisfactorily
    • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, specifically Excel, any experience with Oracle and HFM is a plus
    • Able to quickly adapt to changing business processes and systems
    • Enjoys receiving new tasks/projects and being responsible for the outcome of these tasks/projects
