    Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL) is a safety-science company that – for the past 100+ years – has had a strong focus on home and workplace safety. The new Transaction Security division of UL extends this safety mission from ‘safety in the physical world’ to ‘security in digital the digital world’. UL Transaction Security focusses on securing large, mission critical digital transaction infrastructures such as payment networks, ticketing infrastructures, and mobile commerce environments.

     

    The Transaction Security team in Singapore serves to offer certification services for (new) cards, terminals and hosts in the payment industry. Since this market is moving and growing rapidly, Transaction Security– as a customer focused company – needs to constantly move along with and adapt to the market.

     

    Currently UL Transaction Security is hiring a Principal Lead for our team based in Singapore. If you'd like to make a real impact, make us your first choice.

    Responsibilities

     

     

    This Principal Lead will evaluate the security of embedded products, such as payment cards, payment terminals or e-Passports. We are looking for a highly motivated and multi-talented engineer with hands-on skills and enthusiastic about becoming experts in cyber security and the field our company is active in. The Principal Lead will be reporting to the Asia Pacific Security Laboratory Manager who is also based in Singapore, and will work closely with the team to evaluate the security of embedded products, such as payment cards, payment terminals or e-Passports.

    Globally, we have a big team of experts of which you will be part when you join UL Transaction Security in Singapore. You will be part of the Security Evaluations Service Line within the Transaction Security Division in UL. The people in this service line are widely spread around the world, which makes your work very international. The team in Singapore exists of about 30+ people with whom you will corporate very closely. The UL Singapore office exists of about 140 people in total.

    Your key responsibilities:

    • Work closely with accreditation process/requirements for EMVCo, Visa, Mastercard
    • Perform vulnerability analysis with a focus on payment application (based on EMV standards) and embedded operating systems with regards to physical and logical attacks
    • Engage in code review with respect to confidentiality and security rules, involving travel to customers’ sites when necessary
    • Support security evaluation engineers overseeing the logical and physical attacks to orient, analyze and interpret the code review findings;
    • Undertake report write-ups in compliance with industry best practice rules
    • Keep track of technical developments and maintain a high level of expertise in attacks on embedded devices
    • Contribute to the security evaluation efficiency by suggesting and implementing internal work processes
    • Update work monitoring systems with accurate details and job status
    • Meet customer delivery requirements in all respects

     

     

    Qualifications

     

    • University degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Electronic Engineering with more than 5 years’ related experience, preferably in embedded software development on smart card devices
    • Good knowledge of microcontroller architectures and design, as well as a background in cryptography are strongly preferred
    • Experience as a developer in the payment industry
    • Well versed in the accreditation process/requirements for EMVCo, Visa, Mastercard, etc
    • Good network with the smart card schemes
    • Ability to play the role as a technical lead and architect for key projects
    • A self-motivated team player who is able to work independently
    • A flexible mindset is required
