UL is looking for an engineer with experience in the consumer product design and implementation process.  Exposure to common manufacturing techniques is a plus.  This position involves using engineering training and experience to assist our clients in improving their products.  Projects will be across a wide variety of industries.


Experience with sheet metal and plastic part design is important, as is a good understanding of testing including general reliability principles.  Project work type will vary including CAD design, design analysis, root cause investigation, specification review, test planning, FMEA development, quoting, electro-mechanical design, technology research, standards research, project management, and other tasks in the product development process.  Strong written and verbal skills are required to communicate with customers and colleagues.  The position will require occasional irregular travel to visit clients and other UL sites.


  • Four years’ minimum experience, preferably working with consumer product design and lab equipment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from ABET accredited engineering program - Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering degree / Electrical Engineering
  • Proficiency with Solid Works and/or Creo
  • Some project management experience
  • Experience working with customers to define project scope and quote
  • Experience presenting project results directly to customers
  • Ability to create and execute project schedules
  • Great communication skills
