Currently our Security and Signaling division is seeking a professional Senior Project Engineer who is an expert in Internet of Things (IoT) engineering related to Security and Signaling products. 


    The IoT Senior Project Engineer recommends and drives upgrades to UL’s technical requirements, programs and processes to maintain UL as the highest quality provider for Security and Signaling services. The IoT Senior Project Engineer will remain up to date on all industry related topics. Technical knowledge will immediately convey UL’s Thought Leadership to customers and related stakeholders.


    • Provides technical guidance, leadership, and helps mentor Security and Signaling engineering staff.
    • Provides upgrades to UL’s technical standards related to security, software, and hardware requirements along with other standards bodies.
    • Reviews and approves new testing methodologies and application to Security and Signaling products.
    • Supports the Connected Technologies team in improving UL’s programs and services.
    • Supports the Security and Signaling team in enhancing lab services.
    • Provides technical sales support.
    • Manages customer projects.
    • Works closely with Principal Engineers to upgrade UL product and system standards.
    • Develops relationships within the Security and Signaling industry to understand ongoing needs and helps to translate those needs into developing new standards and new services.
    • Performs other duties as directed.


    • University Degree (Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree) in Computer Engineering or a related discipline plus generally eight years of experience in combination of two different fields, such as network engineering and software development or electrical engineering and computer engineering, etc.
    • Master’s Degree preferred. Ideal candidate will have combination of network and computer/electrical engineering experience.
    • Network architecture experience in wired and wireless communication technologies
    • Proficient in (IPV4/IPV6) WAN, LAN, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN, NAT, routing, switching, and firewall technologies
    • Knowledge of network packet analyzing/scanning software such as Wireshark, TCPDUMP, NMAP, etc.
    • Experience working with wireless communication systems such as GSM, UMTS, CDMA, LTE, 11(Wi-Fi)WLAN, Bluetooth, 6 Lowpan, Zwave, Zigbee, etc.
    • Proficient with at least one of the following languages: JavaScript, Java, Python, R, C++, C, C#, or Objective C. Other computer languages may be considered.
    • Working knowledge of at least one of the following: XML, HTML/HTML5, CSS, JSON, Web Sockets, and/or PHP
    • Comfortable working with various operating systems such as Linux and Windows
    • Experience with IOS/Android OS is not required but is a plus
    • Experience with Microsoft Windows Azure and/or Amazon Web Services, and cloud technologies is not required but is a plus
    • Ability to rapidly learn and pick up new software/hardware skills needed for IoT/ M2M projects
    • Soft skill familiarity with microcontroller architecture SPI, USB, I2C, UART and using Microcontrollers such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Beagle Bone/Beagle Bone Black, ODROID-C1, Cubie Board, and PIC is not required but is a plus
    • Demonstrable knowledge in two or more key areas of electronics: Analog Hardware, Digital Hardware, RF Technologies, Embedded Circuit Design, Circuit Design/troubleshooting, Power Systems, DC/DC converters, Battery-Based Design, Sensor and Control Circuits, Audio Electronics, or Optoelectronics
    • Must be able to read electrical schematics, interpret wiring diagrams, and understand network topologies
    • Working knowledge of common electrical test equipment, including but not limited to DMMs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and signal generators
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively
    • Ability to continuously learn new technologies
