UL is introducing the new Field Engineering Marketing Manager position during an exciting time of transformation. This role will enjoy a highly visible and fast-paced environment where the ability to think strategically and successfully manage multiple priorities is essential. The Marketing Manager will partner with the Field Engineering Organization and the broader Commercial & Industrial Marketing team to effectively plan, support and execute marketing activities: client segmentation, value proposition development, promotional materials, webinars, tradeshows, social media, advertising, media relations and email campaigns. Reporting to the Commercial & Industrial Marketing Operations Manager, this position will manage budget and track spending for Field Engineering marketing activities to ensure positive return-on-investment, generate leads and elevate UL’s brand awareness across key markets. This individual will also conduct ongoing program, trend and market analysis to provide recommendations to improve and build future plans.

Responsibilities

OVERVIEW

  • Lead Field Engineering external marketing activity calendar: events, sponsorships, customer summits, workshops, webinars, email marketing, newsletters, press releases, social media, whitepapers, blog posts, and more
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues (sales, business development, engineering, internal communications and marketing) to define messaging that supports sales and marketing efforts
  • Assist in planning go-to-market strategy and drive execution of marketing activities
  • Prepare compelling messaging and content for promotions across various channels that supports strategies and brand awareness
  • Review and edit communications copy to ensure consistency of UL brand messaging, positioning, and value proposition
  • Coordinate with in-house agency and/or external vendors
  • Provide support as needed to the global marketing team to execute global strategies with regional emphasis and ensure tactics are consistently employed within brand guidelines
  • Track budget to measure annual marketing spend and ensure positive return-on-investment for all activities

TRADESHOWS & EVENTS

  • Research, select and manage all external customer events including trade shows, sponsorships, customer summits, workshops and webinars
  • Coordinate with sales and business development to create individual event goals and strategies, and track ROI
  • Develop and coordinate booth graphics, collateral and other booth material
  • May serve as on-site coordinator to ensure seamless event execution

BRANDING, ADVERTISING & PROMOTION

  • Research media channels to cost efficiently reach target markets
  • Plan, negotiate, purchase and track print & digital advertising
  • Develop marketing campaigns to assist in the launch of new or enhanced service offerings
  • Ensure all promotion is consistent with UL brand standards

PUBLIC RELATIONS, SOCIAL MEDIA & THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

  • Support local public relations and media efforts
  • Research and help secure speaking opportunities for UL executives and subject matter experts
  • Proactively develop relationships with key media/editors in target markets
  • Write press releases and social media posts
  • Manage the development of value-added content by collaborating with engineering & business development on whitepapers, blog posts, and more

WEBSITE MANAGEMENT

  • Develop and post content on the UL website pages, including services, news, events, and more
  • Provide support as needed to the global marketing team, ensuring business-wide programs are effectively deployed via UL digital properties

SALES TOOLS

  • Collaborate with the local sales, engineering, internal communications and global marketing team to develop sales tools, such as presentations, brochures, sell sheets and more, covering local service offerings

MARKET ANALYSIS

  • Assist with market and trend research to ensure services and messages capitalize on new opportunities and are properly targeted
  • Help maintain insights on key customers, competitors and trade associations

LEADS, METRICS & ANALYTICS

  • Ensure leads from promotional efforts are properly managed in marketing/sales automation tools
  • Monitor and analyze standard marketing metrics to track, measure and report on the success of marketing initiatives: web traffic, email subscriptions, sales leads, click-through and email open rates, search engine rankings, etc.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications or related field, plus generally six years of related experience. Minimum two years of management experience
  • Experience in a B2B professional services environment is preferred
  • Values innovation and flexibility, is proactive, motivated and a self-starter
  • Strategic thinker that can execute marketing plans against timelines and meets commitments
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with high quality, attention to detail and exceptional customer service
  • Experience working in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment
  • Executive presence and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with different levels of management
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities in additional to oral communication
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and CMS platforms (Wordpress)
  • Familiarity with CRM tools (Microsoft Dynamics), email marketing platforms (Marketo) and Photoshop is a plus
  • Reports to the Commercial & Industrial Global Marketing Operations Manager
  • Travel requirement: 10-25%
