Responsibilities

Responsible for working with the Consumer and Retail Services (CRS) leadership team as well as other divisional teams, such as Commercial and Marketing, on business and strategy development and execution. They will serve a leadership role as the apparel industry subject matter expert and consultant to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Provides technical and business representation/leadership with industry and governmental organizations and technical committees for the purpose of gathering strategic insight to upcoming Apparel trends and line-of-business dynamics. This insight will be used to position UL in a market leadership role to capture growth opportunities. Responsible for ensuring new and changing industry information is identified, conveyed to relevant personnel in formal format, provide training and will follow up in support of growing business through the development of new and strategic services.

 

Will effectively coordinate and collaborate with the other subject matter experts and management to help with developing future goals and strategies. They will participate in internal key sector and corporate initiatives to support the overall goals of UL.

  1. Position the company’s sales team to take advantage of Apparel market trends and opportunities for the growth of UL’s business share
  2. Establishes plans and strategies to expand the UL’s customer base within the Apparel Industry
  3. Helps commercial staff to develop action plans and sales strategy for current and potential customers within their line-of-business that ensures attainment of company sales goals and profitability
  4. With a spirit of inclusion, coach and mentor the commercial staff to ensure they have the latest technical knowledge regarding the Apparel Industry and are able to deliver solutions meeting or exceeding client expectations
  5. Attends current and prospective client meetings as required to help our commercial staff obtain business and to promote UL’s technical expertise, understanding and positioning with the apparel market 
  6. Review and approval of commercial staff created proposals and quotations for submittal to Director of Sales
  7. Review and approval of commercial staff created client presentations for submittal to Director of Sales
  8. Assists Marketing Staff in the development of promotional strategy for the Apparel Market that aligns with company goals
  9. Promote the company’s expertise in the Apparel market through marketing channels, including writing technical articles for apparel and related publications.
  10. Contributes to the development of training and educational programs of Clients through webinars, presentations, seminars, tradeshows, articles and public speaking events 
  11. Stay current with trends and contacts by reading trade papers and technical articles, attending trade shows, and other industry events.
  12. Keep operational leadership staffers current with industry standards, protocols, trends, shifts and demands through organized communications
  13. Advise and guide and help align operation/lab staff on interpretation of test methods
  14. Direct working relationship with technical employee(s) assigned to respective industry research. Provide guidance and help ensure relevant information is identified and communicated
  15. Offer guidance to operational leadership staff to align resources to effectively deliver identified value proposition
  16. Assist in the alignment of Apparel market opportunities, share growth needs and current goals with our operational departments to capture revenue growth
  17. Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

    • University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree) in Textiles, Apparel, Business or a related discipline plus generally ten years of directly related experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Creative and innovative thinking to problem solve and streamline processes.
    • Ability to remain, objective and professional in challenging situations
    • Ability to work in fast paced work environment both independently and in a group setting and to interact with all levels of staff
    • Ability to lead the team to improve the performance in quality and build productive capacity
    • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in a technical manner
    • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, up to 50% of the time
    • Proficient in internet navigation, e-mail and PC software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
