The Vice President, Talent Acquisition understands business strategies and objectives to identify and prioritize Global Talent Acquisition needs, and then deliver innovative, focused, and growth supportive solutions to further position UL as an “employer of choice”. This role sets the Talent Acquisition strategy, builds out the talent acquisition function globally with the right operating model and deploys world-class talent acquisition programs grounded in strategic workforce planning and modern, diversity-minded sourcing approaches to attract a diverse talent mix. The VP Talent Acquisition partners with various HR and business stakeholders to develop a strong talent pipeline for current and future business needs.

This role requires strong business acumen and a track record of effectively supporting the growth and profitability of a global company. The VP Talent Acquisition uses global HR experience to influence leaders and drive cultural change in a fast-paced and changing environment. S/he has an appetite for positive change, “looking at things differently first and traditionally second”, understanding the use of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning applications within the talent acquisition space.

This role is located in Northbrook, IL (northern suburbs of Chicago) and reports to the SVP CHRO and works closely and collaboratively with various HR stakeholders including Talent Management, the Business Unit and Geography HR Partners.



  • In partnership with Executive leadership, establishes and executes an aligned, holistic and innovative talent acquisition function with clear strategies and consistent practices that attracts top talent.  
  • Creates and drives a talent acquisition strategy that supports a diverse workforce of top talent to help UL achieve its growth strategies.
  • Evolves our talent acquisition model from operational recruiting to an integrated/optimized model with strategic workforce planning, employment branding, successful social media campaigns, candidate relationship management, and a focus on robust talent acquisition programs such as Diversity, Alumni, Employee Referral, University Relations, Professional Networks, etc.
  • Researches, recommends, and invests in new talent acquisition products and services to greatly improve sourcing, put in place new and different channels, leverage Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications, etc.
  • Partners with Talent Management to identify and/or develop new and digital skillset relevant assessment strategies and tools
  • Develops and deploys interview training programs that educate interview teams on how to conduct successful and compliant interviews and creates supplemental education programs and materials to support this effort and others in the talent acquisition and diversity area(s).
  • Identifies, maintains and reports key recruitment, talent-related, and diversity metrics that are then transformed into useful business intelligence.
  • Continuously seeks to improve the entire life-cycle talent acquisition process to ensure an optimal and efficient candidate and manager experience.
  • In collaboration with Talent Management and Marketing, develops, manages and enhance UL’s talent/employment branding initiatives.
  • Collaborates with business leaders and HR Business Partners on Workforce Planning to deliver against business hiring needs and ensures the company stays abreast of current hiring trends, best practices and employment related data.
  • Identifies and manages external talent acquisition and technology vendors that support the hiring process.
  • Manages the administration of recruitment systems and UL’s career portals (e.g. iCIMS, LinkedIn, etc.). Selected and manages all recruitment related vendors.
  • Collaborates with the SVP & CHRO to establish and maintain annual talent acquisition & diversity budget.
  • Leads the talent acquisition team in accordance with the company values to promote a positive, high-performing, fun, innovative, and growth-oriented environment that consistently delivers results.
  • Provides guidance to continually improve the performance of direct reports. Defines accountabilities, establishes performance objectives, provides regular ongoing feedback and guidance, and ensures that all policies are understood and adhered to.
  • Performs other duties as required.



  • University Degree (Equivalent to U.S. Bachelor’s degree) in Human Resources, Business, Training, Organizational Development, or related field (advanced degree is preferred as is a professional HR certification such as SPHR, AIRS® Recruitment certifications, etc.), and generally 12+ years HR experience, with at least 10 years of that in management, in the Talent Acquisition. Previous global human resources experience required.
  • Proven success designing, implementing and executing talent acquisition (with a strong diversity component) and programs.
  • Strong executive presence and leadership capabilities, with the ability to influence senior level leaders and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high paced, growing global company. Strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with HR colleagues and the business partners are essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills are key to success, including strong listening, negotiation, persuasion and facilitation skills with all levels of leadership and employees.
  • Strong customer centric philosophy.
  • Strong coaching skills that lead and motivate senior leaders and others in the organization.
  • Strong results orientation, adaptability/flexibility and organization skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong business skills and ability to critically think – analyze, synthesize and evaluate information to help the business grow and succeed.
  • Knowledge of labor markets and talent acquisition and diversity best practices in technical areas/industries such as Engineering, SaaS, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with candidate sourcing, interviewing and evaluation as well as strong familiarity of various Talent Acquisition technologies and platforms.
  • Experienced in areas of OFCCP and other compliance guidelines, oftentimes most complex in the U.S.
  • Ability to understand and adapt to different cultures.
