Responsibilities

Independently creates, updates and operates processes to manage the execution and timely completion of accreditation activities in collaboration with UL operating locations and functions worldwide to achieve or maintain accreditations. Assists accreditation management by taking the lead role to negotiate and resolve technical and procedural problems, concerns, and citations from accreditation bodies within the constraints of accreditation contracts, requirements and processes and in collaboration with UL laboratory, Engineering, Field Engineering, Primary Designated Engineer, and Quality staff and management. Collaborates with UL Laboratory, Engineering, Field engineering, and Primary Designated Engineer staff and management worldwide to identify, gather and provide technical information to accreditation bodies regarding fulfillment of accreditation requirements. Provides technical support for other staff who are managing accreditation activities and resolving accreditation problems, concerns, and citations.

 

  1. Create and update processes, process documentation, records and intranet information for managing, assuring the completion of, and communicating the status of accreditation activities

  2. Negotiate and schedule onsite assessments, web conference assessments, and witness assessments for accreditations covering worldwide locations and functions. Identify and arrange for participation of representatives of internal groups to address assessment topics, including representatives of corporate functions or activities

  3. Moderate assessment discussions to facilitate effective communication about fulfillment of technical and procedural requirements among all parties. Assist in presentation of records and information. Review and negotiate accreditation nonconformances to achieve validity, clarity and accuracy

  4. Create Corrective Action Requests for accreditation nonconformances (technical and procedural). Review root cause analyses and corrective actions for adequacy as a response to the accreditation body. Formulate and submit responses for nonconformances to accreditation bodies. Advise and collaborate with all individuals and groups affected by the nonconformance if an appeal is considered

  5. Negotiate and resolve technical and procedural problems and concerns with accreditation body assessors and management. Provide advice and guidance to UL laboratory, Engineering, Field Engineering, Primary Designated Engineer, and Quality staff and management on their proposals to resolve problems and concerns with accreditation body assessors and management

  6. Identify needed technical scope expansions for accreditations covering worldwide operations

  7. Initiate, schedule, coordinate and complete accreditation scope expansions and renewals in accordance with accreditation body contracts, requirements and processes for accreditations covering worldwide operations

  8. Guide and assist UL Laboratory, Engineering, Field engineering, and Primary Designated Engineer staff and management with the collection and presentation of technical information to accreditation bodies needed for the renewal of accreditations and for technical scope expansions of accreditations

  9. Performs other duties as directed

Qualifications

University Degree in Engineering, or Engineering Technology, from an accredited

  • program plus five years directly related work experience
  • Experience designing, documenting and implementing processes and related records and information applications
  • Experience in laboratory testing or management, inspection, auditing, and product certification
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17000 series standards
  • Knowledge of applicable conformity assessment markets including the role of government
  • Knowledge of accreditation bodies, accreditation processes and accreditation procedures
  • Knowledge of UL product certification schemes, processes, procedures and UL Safety Standards
  • Experience managing contractual compliance and meeting contractual obligations
  • Experience negotiating from a position of little or no leverage/advantage
  • High attention to detail
