Under general supervision, supports the design of IT technology within network,communication, and hardware systems. Performs analysis and translation of business,information, and technical requirements to achieve IT solutions that meet business needs.Assists the development of design specifications and deliverables that support systemenhancements.



  • Hands-on participation during issue resolution.
  • Train, coach and mentor in both onsite and off-shore locations.
  • Create and establish working partnerships with various technology and business groups across UL.
  • Manage communication to broader team members about trending issues and outages.
  • Assist in, lead assignments, and manage escalation of incidents from the Service Desk.
  • Develop client relationships through communication and engagement on projects.
  • Design, development, and implementation of all policies and procedures related to the support of custom built and COTS business applications.
  • Assist with documenting, troubleshooting, and resolving system issues reported by UL end users and customers.
  • Escalation of issues, where appropriate, to Level 3 support teams for resolution of critical incidents.
  • Identifying patterns of issues and then working with the internal service management and technical teams for ways to proactively correct them.
  • Provide limited end-user application training.
  • Minimize technical exposure and risk on projects.
  • Assist and lead deployments of business applications.

Work closely with:

  • Infrastructure leads to understand, validate, and act on infrastructure impacts on support operations.
  • Development leads to understand upcoming changes that may impact support operations.
  • Project Management to understand deployments from support perspective and minimize risk.
  • User experience team members to understand designed user flow of current and future systems.


University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline plus generally five years ofdirectly related experience.Working technical IT experience in area(s) of specialty.



  • BA/BS degree and 5+ years of experience or equivalent.
  • Successful experience in leading an application support team.
  • Strong process analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills.
  • Experience in working with large companies that have complex e-commerce solutions (or similar).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry trends and standards.
  • Some weekend work during deployments (10-20%).
  • Experience in SQL.
  • Scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, etc.)



  • Exposure to custom .NET systems.
  • Advanced SQL skills, DBA, SSIS packages and other ETL processes.
  • Exposure to SharePoint systems.
  • PowerShell scripting.
  • Virtualization experience (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • ITIL certification.
  • Experience with custom application development – full life cycle.
  • Experience with infrastructure/application monitoring tools and solutions.
  • Experience with cloud computing solutions.
