Responsibilities

UL is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Consumer Product Lab in Newton, IA with experience in the consumer product design and implementation process.

 

This position involves using engineering training and experience to assist our clients in improving their products. Tasks will vary widely and may include project management, quoting, electro-mechanical design, technology research, root cause analysis, test plan development, customer training, and other tasks in the product development process. 

  • Projects will be across a wide variety of industries.
  • Experience with sheet metal and plastic part design is important, as is a strong understanding of testing including general reliability principles. 
  • Project work type will vary including CAD design, design analysis, root cause investigation, specification review, test planning, and project management. 

 

The position will require occasional irregular travel to visit clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering/technology (Electrical/Mechanical) from ABET accredited program
  • Four years’ minimum experience, preferably working with consumer product design and lab equipment.
  • Manufacturing experience added to design experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Solid Works and/or Creo (preferred)
  • At least 2 years’ project management experience
  • A green or black belt in lean sigma is a plus, but not required
  • Experience working with customers to define project scope
  • Experience presenting project results directly to customers
  • Ability to create and execute project schedules
