This role is based at our Northbrook, IL headquarters

The Lead Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist will report to the Regional EHS Manager and is responsible for administration of safe and healthy working conditions for employees at our Northbrook campus.  You will investigate conditions that may affect employee health and comfort and serve as an internal subject matter expert for Environmental, Health & Safety issues.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the development, documentation and maintenance of environmental health and safety (EHS) programs (e.g. hazardous materials, emergency response plans) in compliance with Federal, State and Local legislation.
• Analyzes, interprets and validates information on hazardous materials and chemicals.
• Leads the development of Job Safety Assessments (JSA’s) and provides support to the businesses in identifying, creating, and reviewing safe work instructions and procedures.
• Assists in the creation of EHS programs and instructs employees in matters pertaining, but not limited to occupational health, injury prevention, safe operation of equipment and proper handling/cleanup of chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Coordinate accident and incident investigations, determine probable root cause into near-misses, accidents, injuries and make recommendations for corrective actions.
• Serves as an internal subject matter expert for Environmental Health & Safety issues. Maintains up to date knowledge of laws and regulations that impact the organization. Updates the organization on new regulations.
• Ensures compliance with all Environmental Health & safety regulations for all assigned areas of responsibility.
• Promoting proactive and preventive EHS activities by observing, analyzing and encouraging safe work behaviors and correcting unsafe conditions.
• Manage the performance of direct reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance, and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered.
• Performs other duties as directed.

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or closely related field plus additional requirement of one of the following:
  • Related Master's degree or Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist or Professional Engineer license 
• Minimum seven years directly related experience to include three years managing people.
