What you’ll learn & achieve:

UL Solutions Industrial Business Transformation team is seeking an innovative thinking Lean Six Sigma Master Back Belt with a proven record of building a strong Lean culture and leading teams through transformative process improvement.  Simplify processes, eliminate non-value added activities, implement software automation in the identified areas and processes.  Act as change agent, to instill continuous improvement mindset across sales and operations teams, improve the employee experience and customer perception of UL.


  • Develop process improvement strategy by COU or Service line, collaborating with key stakeholders in COUs and functions
  • Oversee various process improvement efforts across the business and ensure they are aligned, enable best practice sharing
  • Lead team of process improvement experts to implement broader process improvement / simplification initiatives
  • Understand key challenges and pain points within each segment/COU
  • Identify and lead automation opportunities across the value stream, collaborate with enterprise experts and external parties to implement the process automations that would result in greater efficiency
  • Own the funnel of process improvement projects based on employee / customer feedback
  • Build personal relationship and establish credibility with internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple Segment/COUs, Science & Operations, Lab, Field Engineering, Technology & Innovation, Digital and other functions to understand business opportunities, prioritize demand, and identify / implement supporting application capability
  • Collaborate with ULU / Commercial Excellence team to deploy Lean Six Sigma trainings and monitor the effectiveness
  • Interact with customers as needed to understand their pain points and to translate into priorities
  • Interaction with industry experts on external benchmarking (E.g., process automation)
  • No direct financial targets but is responsible for tying back the benefits of the process improvement / efficiency gains to financial and customer success, achieving process efficiency, effectiveness, and cost management targets
  • Attend COU Leadership meetings
  • Reports to L3 Senior Director, Business Transformation Industrial
  • Number of direct reports 4-6

What makes you a great fit:

  • A minimum of 15 years of total professional experience; 2+ years in a senior leadership role or 3+ years in a business strategy role
  • Strategic thinker with strong operational experience
  • Familiar with UL processes, systems and tools
  • Not to get overwhelmed with tremendous data, but will be able to sift through to provide meaningful insights to the leadership team
  • Experience working with diverse, global teams strongly preferred
  • Experience managing and delivering clear, impactful communications to internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build credible relationships with multiple functions
  • Change agent
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and influence behaviors to help change across an organization
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Strong analytical mindset
  • Change Management experience with demonstrated use of change management tools
  • Ability to create business cases with detailed implementation plans
  • Experience building high-performing and highly collaborative teams
  • Experience driving strategic business growth
