Senior Manager, Fixed Asset and Capital Project Accounting

This role is hybrid based out of our Northbrook, IL Headquarters

The Senior Manager reports to a director in Corproate Accounting and manages the Capitalized Assets and ongoing Capital Projects Portfolio for the Global Accounting Team.  It includes Global Fixed Asset, Facility Assets, Software, Project Accounting and Lease Accounting processes for UL Solutions in accordance with US GAAP.  Will own the fixed asset process from capital asset requests through accounting, depreciation, and retirement. Partners with the operating business unit finance teams to review capital asset requests, ensure proper determinations between capital and expense, monitor hundreds of millions in ongoing capital projects and ensure month end close includes the proper accounting of each project.  Conducts the monthly accounting close processes, periodic transaction research and financial analysis. Works cross functionally with business unit leadership to ensure appropriate accounting for assets and leases. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the team that manages all fixed asset transaction processing in a timely manner and in accordance with GAAP.  Own Fixed Asset & Project Asset Accounting Oracle modules.
• Partner with Financial Business Unit teams on all Capital Projects to ensure proper expense/capital determinations and planning.
• Partners with Facility team on all new lease and building projects.
• Partner with all Capital Project managers to ensure continuous evaluation of capital vs expense and month end accruals.  Continuously evaluate the process for GAAP compliance.
• Develop, document, and implement department processes and SOX controls to ensure the proper recording and maintenance of company assets in the sub-ledger.
• Partner with the G/L Accounting Group and Field Operations to conduct annual fixed asset existence testing. Collaborate on developing and communicating instructions and timely reporting for the annual physical audit, and act as a point of contact for field training and support.
• Accountable for the monthly fixed asset accounting close process and related reconciliation, reporting (fixed asset roll-forward, CAPEX, etc.) and tracking.
• Manage the accounting for leases in accordance with ASC 842.
• Prepare audit schedules and resolve audit issues as identified by internal and/or external auditors.
• Prepare and provide recommendations on opportunities to improve processes and changes to company policies and procedures.
• Make and assume other duties and responsibilities required or assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree required, accountinn; CPA, strongly preferred
• Minimum 8 years of total accounting experience
• Excellent accounting knowledge, end-to-end capital expenditure life cycle process knowledge and exceptional financial analytical skills.
• Large company global corporate experience managing Fixed Asset, Software, and Project accounting processes and teams, required
• ERP / Oracle experience preferred
• Public accounting background, preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to identify and resolve issues independently
• Strong GAAP knowledge, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional financial analytical skills required
