What you’ll learn & achieve:

Will support the Engineered Materials, Materials and Plastics strategy and directions with:

  • Developing and owning the strategy and strategy roadmap
  • Developing and guiding the product teams, product organization and products processes to support, implement and improve the strategy
  • Pro-active focus on market signals (risks and trends) to support the strategy and challenge the roadmap and our organization


Products within the Engineered Materials, Materials and Plastics area include next to materials and plastics; additive manufacturing, electrical insulation systems, marking & labeling, gaskets & seals, transportation, and coatings & liquids.

You become a member of the Materials and Plastics Product Management team and will be responsible for the Electrical Insulation Materials and Systems and the Transportation  segments. 


The Product Manager will:

  • support the established product vision with deep market understanding to implement and improve the product strategy. 
  • evaluate market needs against UL’s and competitors’ unique abilities to address them. 
  • support and contribute to the go-to-market strategy, describing how value will be delivered to the customer/user, how the product is differentiated from the competition, and what the business model should be in a given market. 
  • prioritize product/service functions and features into a product roadmap. 
  • monitor a set of product goals, outcomes and corresponding metrics to continually evaluate against and drive future activities and strategies.
  • evangelize and communicate the product vision, strategy and goals internally across the organization, as well as externally with client users
  • actively model and promote a set of desired behaviors aligned with UL’s critical behaviors for success to develop and guide the product teams, product organization and products processes to support, communicate, implement and improve the strategy
  • takes ownership of professional development to secure the knowledge of the products, markets, organization and culture to drive the product strategy and guide the product teams
  • Support an efficient cross-functional matrix structure to enable effective product lifecycle management. 
  • Execute a robust set of processes to power all parts of the product development lifecycle from research/discovery to release/launch management and product support.
  • Leverage a standard set of product management tools to be across the product team at each stage of the product/service lifecycle.

What makes you a great fit:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of technical, commercial or business experience in Engineered Materials or a related industry field.
  • Technical expertise (and/or interest) within Materials and Plastics with a preferred focus on Electrical Insulation Materials and Systems and/or Transportation
  • Ability to lead small to medium groups of internal and external stakeholders towards desired outcomes in order to meet business objectives
  • Ability to conduct discovery sessions with clients, prospects and stakeholders
  • Strong communication and presentation (PowerPoint) skills. 
  • Product management tools – product/service design, analysis (Power BI), product/service development task management and project management, documentation and knowledge (SharePoint), collaboration (e.g. Microsoft Teams), roadmap and portfolio management (and related software tools).   
  • Experience of working with diverse, global (remote) teams is highly valued.
  • Formal training and/or certification in Product Management is a plus.
