The Office of Research Experience and Education (OREE), a Research Institute of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Communications Specialist at UL Research Institutes.

 

The Senior Communications Specialist supports communications and amplification efforts through web communication and social media campaigns for the Office of Research Experiences and Education (OREE), an office of UL Research Institutes (ULRI). This position manages agency partner relationships to develop and distribute integrated content that amplifies reach, engagement, and impact of OREE programs and initiatives with multiple education stakeholder groups, driving clarity and efficiency in go-to-market execution. The Communications Specialist will work closely with OREE director and program managers, and ULRI central communications team, to support communication of research topics, goals and outcomes that advance OREE’s communications strategy.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

As the Senior Communications Specialist you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

 

  • Develop content for distribution to applicable media audiences and digital platforms – website, social media, email marketing, etc. in collaboration with OREE teams.
  • Identify and implement tools, processes and systems that enable the organization to deliver a consistent brand experience while continuously improving execution, with insights into the entire engagement cycle.
  • Monitor performance through data analytics for campaign tactics to inform opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the execution of communications campaigns and monitor their progress.
  • Collaborate with central communications team to collect and evaluate website data, compile detailed reports and translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Ensure communications align with brand guidelines and catered to target audiences.
  • Work closely with OREE leadership and staff to best communicate programs and initiatives and understand how messages may change depending on audiences.
  • Support conference and sponsorship needs (pre, during and post event) through coordinated digital communication efforts.
  • As needed, support management of distribution lists and CMS with updated contacts and applicable science/sustainability education publications, associations, etc.
  • Contribute to organizational success by performing other tasks as required

  • Expert and disciplined communicator, with demonstrated ability to translate technical information into meaningful content for audiences in educational spaces and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability across a variety of marketing and communications disciplines; solid understanding of earned, owned, and paid media and the types of content that would be utilized across each.
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing different types of market research tactics to inform content development and distribution.
  • Strong facilitation, project planning and management.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proactive time management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing agency and outside vendor relations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

  • University degree in communication, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum six years of related professional experience in communications and marketing
  • One or more years supporting a nonprofit, scientific or research organizationpreferably focused on STEM education and sustainability
  • Experience in digital communications and social media campaigns.
