What you’ll learn & achieve:

Reporting to the Director for Trade and Multilateral Affairs, the Senior Trade & Multilateral Specialist provides specialized support including on trade, international organizations, regional and country-specific relations, political systems, public policy trends and international affairs 


You will combine creativity with analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills to support policy campaigns, projects and initiatives on international matters. You’ll bring external perspectives back into UL Solutions to inform our position and direction on targeted policy issues. You’ll enable UL Solutions public policy influence and enhance our market access and service to customers. Your work will catalyze innovation and take into account a diverse range of interests and stakeholders, including policymakers, industry, trade associations and thought leaders. 


Job Responsibilities


  • Drive UL Solutions’ mission objectives on safety, security and sustainability, by supporting existing, and identifying new, opportunities to advance that mission in the trade and multilateral affairs space. 
  • Track and monitor global political activity, regulatory/legislative trends, trade policy and agreements, and activities of intergovernmental and international organizations in relation to UL Solutions positions, advocacy campaigns, and business strategy for market leadership. 
  • Support the Director for Trade and Multilateral Affairs, and UL Solutions greater global government affairs efforts, to develop and execute advocacy campaigns, and to support stakeholder relations, partnerships and coalition building. 
  • Participate in external fora – meetings, coalitions, associations and committees. 
  • Collaborate with global, regional and cross-functional teams and colleagues 
  • Research, document and distribute strategic insights to inform business, regional and global strategies and guide the development and deployment of related public policy advocacy campaigns. 
  • Synthesize global policy research and ensure efficient and accurate distillation and communication of key information: learnings, risks, challenges and opportunities. 
  • Develop policy memoranda, position papers, briefing materials, talking points and presentations for a variety of audiences. 
  • Leverage automated issues tracking and reporting tools to facilitate research on public policy issues and government initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with Senior Specialist, Issues Management Operations on maintenance of automated and manual tracking and reporting for issues and policy management, scans for government pressure points, and contacts database. 
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of UL’s stakeholder and customer relationship management systems and strategies. 


What makes you a great fit:

  • University degree (preferably an advanced degree) in government affairs, international relations, or a related degree combined with equivalent practical experience 
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience within and/or collaborating with -- a government agency or international organization, or similar experience 
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following: foreign affairs, trade policy formulation and/or studies, digital trade, interaction with international organizations (United Nations bodies, APEC, OECD, WTO, etc.), renewable energy, sustainability 
  • Experience preferred in development of briefing materials and talking points for senior officials 
  • Research and analytical capabilities 
  • Organizational and project management skills 
  • Interpersonal skills 
  • English proficiency 
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills 
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment 
  • Travel - Likely not more than 15%
