What you’ll learn & achieve:

The Facilities HVAC Technician is a critical member of UL’s Facilities & Real Estate team. Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities HVAC Technician will take a lead role in safely maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing UL’s lighting and HVAC/R systems and equipment.  

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee, maintain, and control the daily operations of HVAC/R systems following all codes, standards, and trade precautions/safety procedures.
  • Provide preventive and predictive maintenance, conducting daily rounds and readings;
  • Work with external agencies and programs to collect rebates or other available monies when updating inefficient systems.
  • Work with established electrical contractors to perform work that is outside the capabilities of the team.
  • Develop and maintain necessary inventories of electrical materials.
  • Coordinate projects with multiple trades while maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Perform and/or completes all service requests accurately and expediently.
  • Evaluate building systems and controls to monitor and improve performance and operating efficiencies.
  • Respond to after-hours calls within two hours, and keeps company-issued phone on at all times.
  • Actively participate in emergency response procedures, technical and safety training programs.
  • Perform all work using the proper safety equipment and in a safe manner. Report safety issues to supervisor.
  • Comply with all purchasing and receiving policies and procedures.
  • Special projects and other functions as required by manager or client.
  • Occasional snow removal operations.

What makes you a great fit:

  • 2-year technical degree or equivelent certifications in HVAC/R or similar trade required.
  • 5+ years of hands-on residential, commercial, and/or industrial HVAC experience.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, electrical prints, wiring diagrams, and nameplates.
  • EPA Certification required.
  • Experience with central cooling plants stongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of single phase and three phase AC circuits up to 480 volts.
  • Strong understanding of local codes and ordinances.
  • Ability to troubleshoot controls and electrical systems with amp meters, voltmeters, tracers, and recording devices.
  • Ability to occasionally work long hours and some weekends.
  • Familiarity with computers and operations and office automation applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to walk, bend, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to climb exterior ladders and/or use boom lifts at extended heights.
  • Ability to travel, on occasion, to other facilities within the UL family of companies when the need arises.
  • Ability to wear proper PPE, specifically half-mask respirators, where/when necessary.
  • Demonstrated consistency in values, principles and work ethic
  • Valid driver’s license.
