What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Direct, plan and coordinate product management activities for the Enterprise and Advisory (E&A) businesses; including establishing, maintaining and grooming strategic product roadmaps, establishing/leading the future product management team, and establishing/onboarding toward new product management processes and governance.
  • Support the product leadership team and provide input and work with product development and technology teams across the E&A businesses.
  • Lead/participate on product management and technology due diligence efforts as part of acquisition and investment activities.
  • Support, mentor and contribute the E&A product management teams on improving product management processes and procedures, describing how value will be delivered to the customer/user, how the product is differentiated from the competition, and what the business model should be.
  • Assist the E&A product teams on prioritizing product features into an overall E&A strategic product roadmap   
  • Help define and monitor a set of product goals, outcomes and corresponding metrics (KPIs) to continually evaluate and measure performance.
  • Evangelize and communicate the product vision, strategy and goals internally across the organization, as well as externally with clients and prospects
  • Drive a customer-centric, product focused approach toward delivering software solutions that provide the end-user/customer value.

Product Organization and Processes:

  • Support an efficient cross-functional matrix structure to enable effective product development lifecycle
  • Implement a robust set of processes to power all parts of the product management lifecycle from research/discovery to release management and product support
  • Contribute to the discovery, adoption and standardization of product management tools to be used across the product organization at each of the stages of the lifecycle
  • Work directly with architects, software engineers, user experience designers, data scientists and other product managers/owners to deliver software within an agile / scrum methodology.

Team Building and Culture:

  • Actively model and promote a set of desired behaviors aligned with UL’s Critical Behavior’s of Success (CBS)
  • Take ownership of own career and professional development by documenting and communicating career aspirations and any associated development needs to their manager
  • Support career development needs of direct reports, by clearly defining expectations for their current role, actively soliciting their career aspirations and helping close any gaps

People Management

  • Report to the Director of Product Management & Architecture in E&A
  • Build a team of product managers that will support the E&A product management scope of work


What makes you a great fit:

  • University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor's degree) in Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus
  • 5-7 years or more of related discipline experience or demonstrated competency
  • Experience managing product teams (both FTE and contractor)
  • Experience working directly with architects, software engineers, user experience designers, data scientists and other product managers/owners to deliver software within an agile / scrum methodology.
  • Working with remote teams
  • Project management experience and background
  • Familiarity with sourcing and procurement to onboard new vendors/partners across all technology facets (product management, engineering, data science, user experience, architecture, etc.)
  • Familiarity with product funding processes and business case development as part of funding requests (including value chain analysis, net present value calculations, ROI, etc.)
  • Facilitation skills – ability to lead groups of internal and external stakeholders of all sizes towards desired outcomes in order to meet business objectives
  • Interview skills – ability to conduct discovery sessions with clients. prospects and stakeholders in order to diagnose business opportunities, elicit requirements and conduct other types of research
  • Strong communication and presentation (PowerPoint) skills
  • Product management tools – product management (Aha!), development task management (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps), documentation and knowledge (e.g. Confluence, SharePoint), collaboration (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Slack), and portfolio management (e.g. Aha!, Daptiv) 
  • Formal training and/or certification in Product Management is a plus (SAFe, Pragmatic, etc.)
