UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement are seeking a Director of Treasury who will be responsible for leading all cash, debt, investments (through an outsourced investment manager) and tax management functions, establishing systems, policies, and procedures supporting the organization through accurate and timely reporting for regulatory compliance and decision making.

The position supports UL’s two nonprofit organizations, UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, and reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. The position will directly interact with finance functions, including General Accounting and FP&A and other operational areas.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

As the Director of Treasury, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement:

  • Oversee day-to-day cash management to achieve optimal results, including bank account administration and relationships, bank fees and fee structures, and daily cash position/liquidity and forecasting.
  • Monitor and maximize the output of our largest assets to ensure ongoing diversification and return. Partner with the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) function to oversee management of the investment portfolios in-line with the investment policy statements, appropriate controls and best pratictice.
  • Support the acquisition of any debt financing including the required reporting to banks and compliance with financial covenants and accounting guidelines.
  • Work with the internal legal team and external advisors to assess appropriate insurance levels and maintain insurance policies.
  • Manage any tax related activities with respect to sustaining 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations including working with the internal and external accounting, legal and consulting teams in the preparation of the annual tax form 990.
  • In collaboration with the Human Resource function; Hire, lead, and develop a high-performing treasury team to support the growth and mission of the organization.
  • Develop and document business and treasury policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Participate in the selection and contribute to the implementation of new ERP and/or other financial or treasury software platforms.
  • Support finance and other functional management in the coordination and preparation of monthly financial reports, the annual budget and mid-year forecasts.
  • Provide business and decision support to ongoing and special projects.
  • Participate and contribute in other department specific and cross-functional initiatives.

  • Proficiency in MS Office is required.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, with preference to a degree in finance, accounting, business, economics or related field. CPA and MBA or advanced degree with emphasis in finance are preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in accounting and finance including at least 5 years of oversight of treasury and management of personnel is required.
  • Experience working with scientific research, academic or research institutions, and experience working with public policy, nonprofit, and/or mission driven organizations is desired.
  • Experience with cash and debt management for a complex, multi-affiliate environment including for profit and not for profit entities and shareholders is desired.
  • Management experience leading teams, developing strategy, and executing plans.
