What you’ll learn & achieve:

Conduct applied fire research in the field of fire safety engineering, including design and documentation necessary to produce and reproduce testing standards. Plan, design and complete experiments as needed and document the results. Perform fire safety and explosion prevention analyses. Assist in conducting studies and analysis to determine the feasibility of various engineering approaches. Define concepts and criteria to resolve major problems in current fire research programs. Plan and conduct experiments to measure the body of scientific knowledge on topics related to fire safety engineering. Analyze experimental data and test results in order to determine trends and develop solutions. Stay ahead of changing technologies in the field of fire safety by reading journals and scientific publications, and attending academic conferences. 30% travel to other UL location required. *This position qualifies for Underwriters Laboratories Inc.’s employee referral policy program.*

What makes you a great fit:

Doctorate degree in mechanical or fire protection engineering and three (3) years of experience in fire safety engineering

Must have work experience in each of the following: 1) designing and conducting novel research studies in the field of fire science; 2) carrying out fire experiments at scales ranging from bench-scale to multistorey houses; 3) developing custom instruments to support experimental research in fire science; 4) contributing to the standardization of fire test methodologies via committee involvement; and 5) performing fire safety and explosion prevention analyses.
