What you’ll learn & achieve:

The Senior Manager Physical Security is hybrid in Northbrook, IL and will lead the management of UL’s physical security systems, procedures, and protocols required to protect UL systems, facilities, and people. In this role, you will  lead a global team that is dedicated to protecting UL’s assets in all regions of the world.  Key physical security activities include facility security, executive security, event security, travel risk security, physical security crisis response, incident reporting, vulnerability assessments and remediation, threat management and forensic analysis. The Senior Manager Physical Security is responsible for the operational and financial performance of their team and the role requires extensive knowledge of security and strong people management skills.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Leads and directs the development of UL’s global physical security program and has accountability for the performance and development of geographically diverse physical security staff. Establishes and directs the implementation of appropriate physical security strategies, plans, products, and other access control techniques. Also, identifies emerging vulnerabilities, evaluates associated risks, and threats, and provides countermeasures where necessary
  • Prioritizes, directs, and participates in security audits, risk assessments, and response development.
  • Physical security services will include comprehensive risk assessment, vulnerability analysis, customized security systems design, and security systems build-outs
  • Makes recommendations to executive management for improvements to Security and Safety programs while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local law
  • Manages physical security technologies including access control, badging systems and CCTV. Research and stay informed of industry trends, technology, and communicate the value of each of these solutions to executive management
  • Work closely with representatives of local government to ensure cooperation and coordination of property activities with law enforcement and other government agencies
  • Communicates regularly with business leaders to raise security protection awareness throughout the company.
  • Manages the performance of direct reports by developing accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, and follow all physical and digital security practices
  • Performs other duties as directed.

What makes you a great fit:

  • University degree (equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree) in Business, Computer Science or a related field required
  • Generally 10 years of related experience, with 5 years of management experience or 12-15 years of relevant experience

 

  • Familiarity with physical security activities include facility security, executive security, event security, travel risk security, physical security crisis response, incident reporting, vulnerability assessments and remediation, threat management and forensic analysis is required

 

  • Law enforcement training and/or leading a corporate security organization experience is required.

 

  • Excellent presentation and consultative client service skills with an ability to influence and manage key relationships at all levels within the organization. Provides creative solutions with demonstrated effectiveness at both the strategic and tactical levels. Experience managing a sizable internal customer base.

 

  • Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with other teams. High desire to collaborate to create and implement effective security policies. Ability to remain calm under pressure and in volatile situations is essential. 

 

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to use and interpret data to both guide and validate decisions. Able to build a data story which compels the business to take action.

 

  • Experience as an Environmental, Health and Safety Professional is a plus
