Underwriters Laboratories Chemical Insights Research Institute (CIRI) is looking for a Senior Toxicologist to use scientific techniques to evaluate a variety of toxic substances stemming from consumer products and emerging technologies to assess their potential risks and harmful effects. What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Development of in vitro toxicological assessments using guidance from EPA ToxCast, the Endocrine Disruption Screening Program (EDSP) Dashboard and the Chemical and Products Database (CPDat) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and any other regulatory
  • Gather information, provide guidance, and answer Regulatory agency and project team inquiries regarding all testing standards.
  • Lead and manage the design, monitoring and interpretation of in vitro or pre-clinical chemical/sample assessment studies conducted under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Prepare expert reports on toxicology in the support of regulatory documentation.
  • Interpreting the results of biological and volatile organic compound tests for impacts on product safety.
  • Documenting biological risk assessments and analyzing results from Contract Supplement Organizations (CSO’s) in addition to other CIRI partnerships.
  • Interacting with Regulatory Agencies to address test strategies and questions related to toxicological assessments.
  • Communicate with CIRI education teams and CSOs to explain the results of toxicological assessments.

What makes you a great fit:

  • Minimum of a PhD in Toxicology or related fields such as molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in in vitro and in vivo toxicological evaluations and risk assessments
  • Optional but not required: Certification by the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) or other equivalent health science or medical professional certifications.
  • Experience conducting toxicological assessments and documenting test evidence to support tech briefs, publications and guidance documents.
  • Experience working with outside test labs to generate test plans and evaluate results for compliance
  • Strong commitment to quality
  • Aptitude to understand regulations and compliance standards.
  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to multi-task to support simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles and provide solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
