As UL continues its transformation, it wants to infuse strategic thinking and process excellence into its operations to ensure that it is operating at the level of scrutiny that is best-in-class. In this role, you will report to the company’s EVP & Chief HR Officer and lead a team across the total rewards function. Stepping into role, your primary initiative will be to continue elevating the function to ensure UL’s holistic total rewards offering is competitive to globally attract and retain the talent needed to thrive in today’s dynamic environment. Specific areas of focus will include executive compensation as well as Board interaction.

 

To be the ideal candidate, you will need expertise in all areas of total rewards, along with experience leading the function in a large, global organization. Specific experience with executive compensation will be particularly important. You should be a strategic, yet hands on leader who continuously works to improve the function. 

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Direct the overall global total rewards function to ensure programs are competitive, balanced and achieve desired behaviors and results that are closely aligned to the company’s business strategies around the world. Ensure that the function can be utilized to effectively upgrade talent and drive high performers to UL.
  • Lead executive compensation, equity planning and incentive payouts ensuring alignment with business objectives and market benchmarks.
  • Prepare and present information and materials to the company’s Board of Directors and its Compensation Committee.
  • Effectively manage compensation throughout a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Oversee the company’s benefits offerings, ensuring that they are cost effective while delivering a positive employee experience.
  • Interact with vendors and external partners to create and maintain relationships and negotiate contracts. Partner with the legal team to ensure compliance and mitigate organizational risks.
  • Manage the development of total rewards processes and tools to perform due diligence assessment and implementation and the drive for continuous process improvement for potential merger and acquisition activities.
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders, including the CEO, CHRO and finance teams to set overall compensation strategies for the company.

Knowledge Base and Experience

  • Developed subject matter expertise in total rewards, including broad-based and executive compensation, benefits and Board governance.
  • Experience in executive compensation, including responsibility for preparing materials and presenting to a company’s Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated ability to think about broader trends in the function and has and built a network of peers with whom to benchmark.
  • Managed total rewards initiatives with regard to mergers and acquisitions.
  • Operated within a large, complex and geographically distributed organization.
  • Navigated a global environment, with an understanding of how different geographies and their respective laws and nuances can influence total rewards programs.
  • Partnered directly with leaders in HR, finance and the C-suite to create a highly competitive total rewards program that attracts and retains top talent.

  • Innovative, brings new ideas to help advance the function. A creative problem solver who can apply marketplace insights from different channels to adjust programs and enhance results.
  • Develops and mentors members of their team; creates future leaders in the company. 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 15 or more years of progressive experience within the total rewards function.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Designations and certifications such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) are preferred. #LI-KM3

Additionally, we invest an additional 4% into your retirement saving fund after your first year of continuous employment. We provide Healthcare Reimbursement Accounts and Health Savings Accounts that UL contributes to twice per year! Depending on your role, you can work with your manager on flexible working arrangements. We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation, holiday, sick and volunteer time off.
