Assist UL clients with the development of products to ensure that new and existing products comply with UL safety requirements for major and commercial appliances. Assist in the advanced development and execution of test methods and test equipment, as well as establish test programs for product investigations, and prepare reports for UL clients. Determine project scope and specifications with substantial latitude for action or decision, and recommend changes in procedures, design, or equipment. Plan, conduct, and supervise projects. Determine areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements, as well as any changes in project scope or specifications, and notify client. Coordinate complex laboratory activities by developing data sheets. Resolve complex engineering issues associated with variation notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations. Develop UL requirements for testing products beyond the scope of existing standards, and develop special test methods and test equipment. Provide leadership and technical advice on special projects involving complex, new, or unusual issues. Represent UL on technical committees of national and international organizations. 100% travel to unanticipated client sites throughout the U.S. *This position qualifies for UL LLC’s employee referral policy program.*
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electronics engineering and seven (7) years of experience in safety engineering
Must have work experience in each of the following: 1) experience with conformity standards for laundry and dishwashers; 2) experience with conformity standards for major and commercial appliances, including electric and gas ranges; 3) experience with testing major and commercial appliances and developing advanced testing methods for the latest technology; 4) knowledge of product development lifecycle in appliances industry; and 5) knowledge of systems engineering.
