We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Graphic Designer at Underwriters Laboratories. 


The Senior Graphic Designer is responsible for producing elegant design solutions to support the work and mission of the Underwriters Laboratories Research Institutes and Underwriters Laboratories Standards and Engagement organizations. This individual will possess a strong design aesthetic, sharp critical-thinking skills, and have the ability to create impactful designs to meet the needs of our internal and external stakeholders alike. In this solution-focused role, the graphic designer will take direction from the strategic communications director to translate complex safety science information into impactful visuals that inform industry practices, safety procedures, and encourage behavior change. Working with fellow content creators, STEM professionals, and communications team members from across our organization, the graphic designer will tap into their creative toolkit to develop visual materials aligned with our brand.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

As the Senior Graphic Designer, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of Underwriters Laboratories as you:

  • Apply the latest industry tools and best practices to plan, design, and execute visually arresting print and multimedia deliverables that engage, inform, and educate our stakeholders.
  • Exhibit your strong command of the Adobe Creative Cloud applications when you design publications and newsletters, edit photographs and videos, develop animations, and create PowerPoints, social media posts, infographics, and charts to support the needs of our organization.
  • Grasp complex safety science concepts and create readily-understood materials designed for our corporate colleagues, safety educators, academia, public and private sector leaders, and the general public.
  • Form productive partnerships with critical internal stakeholders and subject matter experts as a member of our cross-functional and agile team. Flexibility and diplomacy are key attributes in our collaborative environment, as is your ability to welcome feedback.
  • Manage multiple creative projects at any given time, display your strong attention to detail and adherence to brand guidelines all the while maintaining excellent quality and superior customer service.
  • Maintain an easily accessible and organized archives of all your work.
  • Assist in identifying brand-appropriate stock photography for use internally and externally.
  • Advise on the overall design of SharePoint pages and contribute masthead and banner designs as needed.
  • Create support materials such as invitations, pop-up banners, and screen graphics for corporate events.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Use problem-solving and project management skills to identify issues and concerns as they arise and recommend practical solutions for improvement.
  • Work alone and/or collaborate with others in a fast-paced environment with top-notch organizational skills, attention to detail, responsiveness, and accountability.


 Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related discipline is preferred.
  • At least three years of related work experience required. Background working in a corporate communications environment is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with graphic content creation tools to create, design, develop, and deliver graphic designs, and the ability to learn new software applications is must. Animation and/or photography experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar programs required.
