In this role, you will be responsible for the management and direction of the procurement function in support of two organizations, UL Research Institutes and UL Standards and Enagement. This experienced professional will lead key sourcing and procurement planning and execution initiatives, achieving best value and results for the organization.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

As the Sourcing and Procurement Manager, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of Underwriters Laboratories as you:

  • Develop and execute a systematic approach to understand procurement needs of the organization, accelerate delivery, maintain and improve quality, and achieve appropriate pricing of products and services essential to the operations and growth of the organization.
  • Collaborate with leaders across the organization to identify short and long-term needs, and develop appropriate plans to meet those requirements.
  • Evaluate and improve systems, processes, and resources to optimize sourcing and procurement results for the organization and specific groups.
  • Ensure that policies, processes, controls, training, and deployment of sourcing and procurement resources optimize the ability of the enterprise to meet requirements for quality, cost and schedule.
  • Oversees / Directs / Supports programs that span the enterprise(s) such as ERP implementation, M&A integration, supply risk management, audit-findings resolution and to build robust end-to-end procurement processes.
  • Will have dual-responsibility of category management as well as operational procurement functions within the sourcing area including asset and service procurement.
  • Work closely with the legal and finance teams to ensure all vendor agreements are appropriately reviewed / budgeted and in a timely fashion, so that the enterprise maintains an uninterrupted supply of materials and services.
  • Leads in the process of developing Supplier Service Level Agreements for mission critical commodities and services. This includes insuring that Suppliers meet cost and service level commitments in contracts.
  • WorkS across the enterprise with UL Solutions to ensure process and documentation consistency. Initially will need to work within the Oracle ERP and related systems and then support the implementation and stabilized use of any new stand-alone system
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for the sourcing and procurement function that can be used to manage service levels and demonstrate the effectiveness of the sourcing strategies, tactics, and team.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers to improve speed and quality, remove steps in the procurement process, reduce costs, and improve results for the organization.
  • Build and enhance relationships with strategic suppliers to deliver high levels of service while maintaining best-in-class commercial terms and conditions.
  • Manage key suppliers to ensure that all contractual obligations are met, initiatives are performing against contracts, and that issues and disputes are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Optimize supplier base to simplify purchasing and drive efficiency.
  • Participate and contribute in other department specific and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

  • University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree) in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related discipline plus generally eight years’ experience in a sourcing or procurement leadership position in a matrix organization. MBA is preferred.
  • Strong experience with strategic sourcing processes and contract management.
  • Expertise with sourcing and procurement technologies. Implementation of a new system a plus.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM/CPSM) certification is a plus.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification is a plus.
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of leading change and achieving results.
