What you’ll learn & achieve:

An Air Quality Technician performs indoor air, environmental and water quality inspections and survey work in accordance with legal requirements and UL’s Healthy Buildings audits.  

  • Use technical judgment to solve indoor environmental quality issues and deduce the source of problems.
  • Assist in interpreting and analyzing lab results from field samples. 
  • Assess building systems including air distribution, water distribution, heating and cooling systems as necessary. 
  • Evaluate and facilitate options for corrective action where variations from UL requirements are noted.    
  • Identify procedures, test methods, test results, sample selection and variations in products, devices, processes, systems and materials as necessary to resolve problems. 
  • Use instruments to perform inspections, such as rotameters, temperature/humidity sensors, ozone and other gas sensing technology, and other UL supplied equipment. Confirms proper calibration of UL supplied equipment. 
  • Document examination, variations and test results to appropriate UL forms. Maintain logs for scheduling inspections, time and expenses.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.

What makes you a great fit:

  • Minimum 2-year Technical Degree with two years of related experience. Bachelor's Degree and/or a focus in Environmental Science or related field strongly preferred. Commensurate experience could be considered.
  • Indoor Air Quality Testing, CSST Asbestos Certification or Field Inspection experience a plus. 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, and client-interfacing skills.
  • Strong computer skills. Comfortable using technology to collect data.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally up to 40% as needed. 
  • Lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Ability to walk facility grounds during inspections
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, work at heights and reach/work above head.
