What you’ll learn & achieve:

The Testing Center of Excellence Lead provides strategic leadership, oversight and operational sustainability for UL’s enterprise testing methodologies, automation, and functions, ensuring the highest quality delivery of strategic technology projects. 

 

This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a Testing Center of Excellence (TCoE), which includes  an enterprise-wide end-to-end test strategy framework, standardized test architecture, associated methodologies and process architecture, test planning for strategic/complex initiatives, test automation and test environment strategy.

  • Collaborates with business stakeholders and IT colleagues to establish and analyze testing needs.
  • Designs and establishes the policies, procedures and best practices governing the overall approach for the enterprise test management function and test environments within UL. 
  • Works with IT and Business Management to ensure testing strategies and master test plans are defined to support overall testing objectives and communicated to meet business/enterprise needs.  
  • Navigates the IT organization effectively – knows where, how, when and with whom to interact to drive results around test and validation management.
  • Owns the overall quality of IT services and solutions for the program.  
  • Plays a leadership role in the design, development and implementation of testing and automation components. 
  • Works closely with developers and end users throughout the Solution Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC) to assure developed products conform to requirements and design and will meet the needs of the users. 
  • Communicates to executives’ resource and process needs to ensure testing standards are in line with customer, IT, and industry standards. 
  • Communicates testing progress as well as associated risks, issues, and contingencies.
  • May provide strategic planning analysis concerning staffing needs on short, medium- and long-term basis, based on large scale program and special dedicated project test requirements. 
  • Collaborate with UL leadership and teams to continually improve and enforce QA processes, standards, and metrics for various types of projects.
  • Leverage UL IT metrics to ensure quality, timely and consistent delivery for the area 
  • Responsible in partnership with the IT PMO, EPMO, Enterprise Technology, Release and Deployment and IT Change Management leads for planning, scheduling, and controlling the movement of components from test to production environments. 
  • Focuses on developing talent and building a high performing test management team as well as identifying new avenues for developing talent. 
  • Collaborate with other IT leaders to fulfill the IT vision of delivering a world-class integrated information and technology platform for growth to enable UL's mission.
  • Ability to work with executive levels of leadership with critical timelines and commitments.
  • Manages the performance of direct reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing feedback and guidance, and ensuring that all policies are understood and followed.

What makes you a great fit:

  • University Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, plus generally five+ years of directly related TCoE experience.
  • Experience setting up a TCoE (preferred) or running one
  • Experience with building the strategy and defining KPIs
  • Knowledge of current testing automation tools
  • Great communication skills
  • Some employee leadership and process management experience, as well as Release and Deployment process experience and how it relates to Testing
  • Assisting in long range operational planning
  • Recommending annual operating goals and budgets
  • Developing strategies to achieve goals
  • Maintaining budget performance
  • Detailed knowledge of the delivery of a TCoE, an effective and implementable strategy and sustainable support plan  
  • Demonstrated ability to perform management functions such as:
    • Managing staff and vendor relationships
    • Development of performance standards
    • Managing employee relations issues
    • Identifying training needs and planning to address those needs
    • Planning staff levels
