JOB FUNCTION:

As our global footprint continues to grow, we are looking for an Enterprise Data Warehouse and Analytics Leader. This leader is responsible for the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence and Analytics platforms. The Enterprise Data Warehouse Platform delivers services including the capture, storage, access and use of transaction and aggregated data across key data domains at UL. The Business Intelligence and Analytics platforms delivers reporting, dashboard and analytics services to support our enterprise decision makers, business managers and analysts. Finally, as UL migrates more of its data platforms to the Cloud, this leader will be responsible for the overall Cloud Based Data Warehouse Platform Architecture to support UL into the future. This individual will work closely with IT and business leaders to determine how best to plan, implement and control activities for the management of our data platforms in support of enterprise data and information goals. The Director acts to assure integrity of corporate data, proprietary information, and related intellectual property. Determines long-term corporate-wide information needs and develops overall strategy for systems development and/or hardware acquisition and integration. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Partners with the IT Delivery leaders, Enterprise Architecture, Technology, and projects stakeholders to identify, support, and analyze the business’ need for data warehouse platforms and business intelligence and analytics capabilities to determine how to best drive business value.
  • Develops a company-wide vision, strategy, and roadmap for Cloud Data Warehouse Platforms. This will include:
  • Provide a strategy, roadmap and set of plans for cloud based big data warehouse platforms services and capabilities.
  • Capturing and refining the business drivers including the policies and standards, and high-level requirements.
  • Collaborates closely with enterprise architecture and business leaders to architect cloud based big data warehouse platforms to meet business needs..
  • Develops a company-wide vision, strategy, and roadmap for Business Intelligence and Analytics capabilities. This will include:
  • Capturing and refining the business drivers and requirements including the source data, data curation, data visualization and analytic methods.
  • Collaborates closely with business leaders to implement Business Intelligence and Analytics policies and standards with capabilities like reporting, dashboards, predictive modeling, and optimization.
  • Defines the overall business intelligence and analytics goals, principles, policies and standards of the enterprise.
  • Establishes appropriate business intelligence and analytics best practices, processes and requirements.
  • Responsible for defining enterprise business intelligence and analytics standards associated with report and dashboard development, and analytic methods.
  • Provide a strategy, roadmap and set of plans for business intelligence and analytics services and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other IT leaders to fulfill the IT vision of delivering and governing a world-class integrated information and technology platform for growth to enable UL’s mission.
  • Navigates the IT organization effectively - knows where, how, when and with whom to interact to drive results
  • Collaborates with other IT leaders to prioritize master data management needs to ensure their team’s resources are aligned to the most critical work.
  • Administration/Technical ownership of cloud-based application platforms for data warehousing, business intelligence and analytics (e.g. Snowflake, MSFT Azure, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Leverages best practices to develop innovative ways to integrate business intelligence and analytics across the enterprise and between various operational and analytic solutions.
  • Keep IT Delivery, Architecture and Technology leaders aware of key data issues, identifying and resolving potential problems and conflicts.
  • Focuses on developing talent and building a high performing team.
  • Acts to assure the integrity and security of information technologies and/or systems.  Understands and follows the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Develops and reviews capital and expense budgets for assigned operations. 
  • Leverages UL IT metrics to ensure quality, timely and consistent delivery
  • Owns the overall quality of IT services and solutions for the IT data governance team.
  • Data Management and Governance strategy, policies, and procedures.
  • Data management and governance technology roadmap in partnership with Enterprise Architecture
  • Maintains professional contacts with other organizations, research institutions, and equipment manufacturers concerning computer applications and equipment. Keeps abreast of technological changes and innovations in the information systems field. 
  • Acts to assure the integrity and security of information technologies and/or systems.
  • Develops and reviews capital and expense budgets for assigned operations.
  • Manages the performance of direct reports by developing accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.

What makes you a great fit:

  • At least 8-10 years of experience with data warehousing and analytics technologies, capabilities, and solutions within diverse heterogenous environments. Snowflake and Power BI platform experience preferred.
  • Experience with architecting and designing cloud based big data platforms. Engineering or laboratory industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience serving as an IT leader with budgetary responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Analytics, or a related discipline. Masters degree in related area preferred.
  • Advanced level knowledge and understanding in concepts related to cloud based big data warehouse platforms including policies and standards, data modeling, data engineering, business intelligence, analytics and big data platform architectures.
  • Experience leading and managing large IT teams
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments required.
  • Experience as a global leader with the ability to communicate/influence culturally diverse people.
  • Experience leading or participating in cross-functional digital and data transformation projects
  • Experience with data warehousing, business intelligence and analytics principles, policies, standards, and technologies
  • Subject matter expert knowledge of emerging data warehousing, business intelligence and analytics related products and services.
  • Ability to develop and integrate new ideas and initiatives that improve the performance of the organization
