This role is hybrid based in Northbrook, IL  


Are you an experienced strategic communications professional who aspires to serve as a business partner? By joining UL Solutions, you will take lead on developing a holistic strategy and messaging that engages key internal and external audiences. You will also be responsible for executing key tactics to keep stakeholders informed on important information related to UL's strategic objectives, key initiatives, insights and more. 


You will work collaboratively with corporate communications colleagues and select leaders across business units and corporate functions, including Testing, Inspection and Certification.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships with senior leadership and additional stakeholders to understand their business functions and develop appropriate strategies and messages to achieve goals.
  • Collaborate with team members on communication goals, channel strategy, and messaging.
  • Partner with the Creative Services team or agencies to develop complementary visuals and videos for internal and external use.
  • Lead support for Business Unit initiatives and programs, partnering with key stakeholders and leadership teams to develop content and materials incorporating UL Solutions mission, vision, and values for quarterly corporate-wide all-hands meetings and team townhalls.
  • Coordinate internal communications for organizational initiatives and activities such as employee updates, corporate events, webcasts/broadcasts, and internal UL meetings with the broader corporate communications team as appropriate.
  • Connect and align internal/external communications based on enterprise initiatives
  • Manage content for communications channels, including but not limited to SharePoint, social media, newsletters, leadership updates, and more
  • Measure effectiveness of communications; establish benchmarks and use results to inform strategic communications plans
  • Perform other tasks as needed 

What makes you a great fit:

  • BS/BA degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field, plus 7+ years of related experience
  • Creative, strategic thinker and storyteller with exceptional writing and editing skills who can effectively communicate what we need stakeholders to know, feel, and do.
  • Must have experience translating complex ideas into simple, authentic, and compelling communications.
  • Strong capabilities in building and cultivating relationships with senior leaders
  • Excellent presentation skills and executive presence
  • Must have experience translating complex ideas into simple, authentic, and compelling communications
  • Experience managing and using a wide array of communications tools and channels
  • Values innovation and flexibility, is proactive, motivated, and a self-starter
  • Proven ability to lead and engage across functions and geographies
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, delivering high quality and exceptional customer service
  • Change management communications experience a plus
  • Experience in a B2B professional services environment is preferred
  • Experience working in a global communications role for a complex matrix organization across several global regions is highly preferred
