What you’ll learn & achieve:

UL is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join an experienced software development team.  The candidate will be responsible for the design and development of customer-facing environments and the deployment pipelines to deliver UL software applications.  This individual will work with infrastructure, application support, software architects and engineers to perform a strategic review of hardware and software needs, options, risks, and cost analysis impact. 

Job duties include build and deployment configuration, research, tools and technology evaluation, advising, implementing, and documenting best-practice standards for the development and deployment of enterprise class distributed software.



  • Work closely with the Development, QA, Infrastructure and Security teams across all phases of application development and deployment
  • Create an automation strategy for release deployments and other maintenance activities, and participate in production releases
  • May be required for On-Call schedules & escalation for Production support
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures and policies, adhering to Enterprise policies and compliance needs
  • Work on Disaster Recovery planning and testing with other responsible team members, as per company policy
  • Enable development teams' productivity by building solutions, automation tools, providing help and guidance as needed
  • Troubleshoot environmental issues that arise from software deployment and configuration
  • Focus on continuous integration (CI), release management, infrastructure resources (Azure), provisioning of environments

Lead initiatives that improve upon the quality, performance, and stability of the CI/CD pipeline

What makes you a great fit:

Skills and Experience

  • Strong 5 plus years experience working with PowerShell scripting
  • Solid background with DevOps in an on-premises as well as AWS, Azure, GCP, or hybrid environment
  • Experience implementing and executing continuous integration and continuous delivery strategies
  • Experience in application monitoring, alerting, and diagnostics
  • Active Directory, DNS, Web certs/SSL experience
  • Experience with Source Control/Git
  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Able to lead, influence, and engage in healthy debate that results in high quality solutions.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills


Desirable skills to have

  • IIS and NodeJS configuration
  • Hands-on experience with Octopus Deploy, TeamCity, Azure DevOps
  • Experience with Azure ARM, Bicep or Terraform scripts
  • Working experience with Application Load balancers and Firewalls
  • Fundamental understanding of Single Sign-on (SSO) workflows and tools
  • Creation and usage of asymmetric cryptography
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Configuration Management, Provisioning, Containers)
