This newly created role will direct UL’s enterprise/global corporate communications strategy and function including internal and external communication, crisis communications, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) communication, executive positioning and strategic sponsorships. This senior-level role can expect to collaborate with all levels of the organization, including senior executives, business stakeholders and marketers on the development and implementation of enterprise wide communication strategies.

 

You will have the opportunity to create the global communications strategy to ensure Corporate Communications is driving value for the organization and managing enterprise risk. To activate the strategy, you will shepherd in the development of communication guidelines, processes, resources and governance frameworks to ensure high quality, aligned, brand compliant communication is delivered to the market.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Provides expert counsel to senior executives and the enterprise marketing organization; responsible for global strategic planning across communication function; ensures cross-functional collaboration
  • Defines and delivers communication strategy that aligns with and activates on the UL brand strategy to build and protect UL's market presence and reputation.
  • Directs messaging and writing/editorial efforts. Champions storytelling and seeks new platforms for effective
  • Accountable for crisis management and M&A Experienced in best practices in crisis and issues management. Provides senior-level guidance.
  • Directs staffing, team development, budget planning and allocation, vendor and agency management, and ensures best practices are followed across function
  • Directs proactive and reactive media and analyst relations strategy
  • Directs and executives stakeholder management for crisis communications and major communications efforts
  • Creates and activates a stakeholder management plan, and defines measurement frameworks and ensures tracking/reporting inform ongoing optimization
  • Read and follow the UL Code of Conduct, and follow all physical and digital security practices

What makes you a great fit:

  • Degree in communication, marketing or a related field
  • Masters preferred
  • Generally 10 years or more of related discipline experience or demonstrated competency including four years or more of relevant management/leadership experience or demonstrated competency
  • Agency experience preferred
  • Crisis management background required
  • Expert and disciplined written and verbal communication; excellent interpersonal skills
  • Expert leadership skills
  • Strong facilitation, project planning and management skills
  • Expert business acumen
  • Advanced budget management
  • Expert capabilities and experience working with senior leaders
  • Strong analytical acumen
  • Skilled editor and experienced writer
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Demonstrated skill in team building and team/cross functional leadership
  • Able to understand technical and scientific issues and to translate complex information for nonscientific audiences
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience managing and/or using a wide array of internal communication tools
