What you’ll learn & achieve:

UL is seeking a Sr. Software Architect to join our experienced Architect team. This role delivers relevant and consumable enterprise-wide architecture, enabling efficient development using the best technologies. You’ll make use of your extensive experience in enterprise software as you provide solutions to large-scale opportunities. A successful candidate delivers technology roadmaps enabling our leaders to effectively plan and our development teams to effectively execute the right technologies at the right times. The position provides leadership, direction, and accountability for strategic application architecture plans, system design, and implementation. The position also develops and tailors application design concepts, long-term roadmaps and implementation plans for the efficient transformation of the current application portfolio in alignment with enterprise initiatives. And you will write a lot of code!

 

General Responsibilities:

 

  • Evaluate, understand, and own current architectures
  • When required, write and deliver high quality, “done”, Production ready code
  • Identify and analyze technical business drivers and requirements that drive the future state architecture
  • Develop implementation plans for key aspects of enterprise architecture based on business requirements and development strategies
  • Identify solutions, architectures, processes and capability gaps and propose incubation efforts to address the gaps
  • Document all architecture design and analysis work
  • Develop, improve, validate, and use tools to facilitate enterprise architecture efforts
  • Develop business models, reference architectures and technology strategies that describe the context for developed software
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and support in the deployment of complex applications in globally distributed computing environments
  • Ensure overall solution-level integrity of applications
  • Collaborate with other architects to identify strategic opportunities
  • Communicate and collaborate with management and engineering teams
  • Facilitate the governance and use of architecture principles, guidance, and reference architectures

What makes you a great fit:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Communication skills to present ideas and concepts effectively; strong and proven problem solving
  • An ability to evaluate emerging technology and design approaches continuously and lead technology decisions
  • Ten years as a software architect or working on a software architecture team, providing technical leadership/guidance/mentorship
  • Ten years in complex enterprise software development projects, preferably with division or company-wide architecture accountability
  • Ten years with multi-tier system development
  • Ten years building, releasing, and supporting SaaS application in a Production environment
  • Ten years in multiple software development lifecycle phases, including scope and proposal, analysis, design, and software construction
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft technologies, specifically .Net; C#, ASP.net, MS SQL Server
  • Experience designing and building RESTful web APIs
  • Experience with JavaScript, Angular or React, HTML5, CSS3
  • Experience developing secure applications for the enterprise (OAuth, SAML, encryption, etc.)
  • Strong RDBMS database experience, such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server

 

Nice to have:

 

  • Experience with Microservices
  • NoSQL database experience, such as MongoDB
  • Experience with open-source technologies
