As our global footprint continues to grow, we are looking for a Senior Homologation Process Engineer to join our Automotive team in Detroit, MI!

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Be the go-to person within the mobility team for vehicle homologation service offerings development.  Be a part of the team developing cutting edge solutions for homologation support in existing technologies and future technologies.
  • Perform homologation advisory activities for client vehicle programs, related to safety and regulatory compliance affairs.
  • Be an expert in vehicle-related safety compliance with U.S. and export countries’ requirements.
  • Interact with the appropriate government entities such as NHTSA, FMCSA, NTSB, FMCSA, and Transport Canada to support our clients. Interact with regulatory teams in Europe, China and other relevant export countries.
  • Work with other teams to accomplish homologation and safety related tasks focusing on creating scalable, repeatable processes.
  • Participate in regulatory rulemaking process as part of the UL team. Gather input from related engineering and test teams.
  • Work with clients to ensure complete and timely submission of mandatory government certification applications and related reports.
  • Participate in customer facing meetings with a focus on understanding pain-points and developing solutions to help customers meet all safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input regarding relevant SAE, ISO and other recommended practice to customer design teams.
  • Design processes to help customers comply with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.  Stay informed of the latest North American regulations including Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Standards (FMCSS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Air Resource Board (CARB), Transport Canada (CMVSS), and European type approval regulations and processes.
  • Customer Platform Responsibility – Compliance of programs inclusive of “bumper to bumper” and all other vehicle systems with respect to North America, Europe, Australia, and any other targeted export countries.
  • Provide guidance on Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40/49 as well as other global requirements.
  • Provide summaries of current and upcoming vehicle related regulatory legislation as needed to customers.
  • Ensure customer concerns and aspirations are considered in UL’s comments and feedback for government rule making activities. Participating in and influencing working groups involved in the development of regulations and standards as required
  • Help design and deploy cutting edge solutions to help monitor and inform customers of new or upcoming regulatory activities affecting vehicle safety through meetings and presentations. Provide assessment details of the rules and how they impact customer programs.
  • Review Service Literature and Product Manuals for conformance to compliance guidelines for our customers.
  • Research, collect, and analyze technical facts of potential safety and noncompliance issues and inform relevant clients.
  • Define and deploy cutting edge scalable solutions to help customers create and manage regulatory calendars including Regulatory Roadmaps, Homologation Trackers, and other tracking systems to ensure complete homologation information are in place.
  • Review and propose all safety warning label(s) for customers. Review VIN conformity and new model year VINs.
  • Conduct training and technical advisory services in the field of homologation

What makes you a great fit:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years of homologation and regulatory affairs in various vehicle platforms. Higher levels of experience preferred. MBA preferred. 
  • In-depth knowledge of design and validation of automotive systems and of government regulatory processes.
  • Ideally official recognition as an expert / authorized signatory for the European market
  • In-depth knowledge in the field of vehicle regulations such as EU/ECE, FMVSS, etc.
  • Knowledge in the field of type approval for electric vehicles (e.g. ECE-R10, ECE-R100, ECE-R101) and new technologies (e.g. ECE-R155, ECE-R156, ECE-R157) preferable
  • Experience in project management and many years of practical experience with project work in the automotive sector
  • Represent the company and interface with regulatory bodies and industrial peers
  • Strong client and service orientation, with a high degree of initiative and proactive approach
  • Good communication skills (able to discuss with clients about technical requirements)
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of time.
