Job Function

Chemical Insights Research Institute (CIRI) of Underwriters Laboratories Inc., is recruiting a Communications Coordinator to support the communications and outreach efforts for our organization. This role will be an integral part of the team in understanding all communications and educational initiatives, objectives, timelines, and desired outcomes. Deep collaboration with research counterparts, colleagues across Underwriters Laboratories and UL, and third-party agencies will be needed.


Reporting to the Director of Communications and Outreach, this position supports in managing agency partner relationships to develop and distribute integrated content that amplifies reach, engagement, and impact of research-driven insights. The Communications Coordinator will execute the communications strategic direction and will support in planning, organizing, and managing outreach projects.


A key function is to communicate our internal and external technical documents and summaries of research findings to applicable audiences to inform and ultimately drive behavior change.


The Communications Coordinator Role Responsibilities Include:

  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Outreach, execute roadmap for maintaining brand positioning both off and online for multiple target audiences and project initiatives
  • Support in the development and execution of integrated campaigns, collaborating deeply with research counterparts, internal resources, and external agency partners to create engaging content that drives behavior change
  • Work closely with the Research team and our Education experts to best communicate the science to key stakeholders
  • Identify and implement tools, processes and systems that enable the organization to deliver a consistent brand experience while continuously improving execution
  • Monitoring performance and analytics to guide and inform campaign tactics
  • Contribute to organizational success by performing other tasks as required

What makes you a great fit:

  • University degree and three to five years of related professional experience
  • Two or more years supporting a nonprofit, scientific or research organization
  • Strong communication with demonstrated ability to translate technical information into meaningful content for multiple audiences
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work proactively
  • Works with strategic purpose and approach and leads with a process improvement mindset
  • Passion for detail and managing multiple projects
  • Demonstrated experience and capability working across multiple communications tools; solid understanding of earned, owned, and paid media and the types of content that would be utilized across each
  • Event, tradeshow, and conference development experience preferred
  • Able to understand technical and scientific issues and translate complex information for nonscientific audiences
  • Experience managing and/or utilizing a wide array of communication platforms including automation, CRM, and LMS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products
