The Chemical Insights Research Institute of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (ULCI) seeks a science driven, results oriented and highly technical and effective Director of Global Air Pollution to lead research and operations for its developing Center for Global Air Pollution.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

The Director will lead development of its research agenda, implementation of research programs and field studies, and communication of research findings and their significance through publications, presentations and various organizational/educational tools. CIRI desires to grow its leadership recognition in the protection of public health through discovery research and its applications for safer and healthier environments and people.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Develop research agenda based on emerging pollution sources and health risks, execute research, and communicate findings.
  • Build on CIRIs existing research platform based on human exposure to environmental pollutants, their sources and pathways, and evaluation of human health risks, for indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Establish partnerships with academia, government and other public health institutes to establish research agenda, conduct research and communicate for broad amplification of research findings and applications for positive human health outcomes.
  • Manage and direct ongoing daily research and growth of research and laboratory capabilities needed to support research.
  • Develop budgets as required for research initiatives, laboratory needs, and communication/education processes.
  • Identify research staff needs and recruit scientists’
  • Champion the air quality research initiatives and serve as its technical lead and expert across internal and external teams and stakeholders,
  • Promote CIRIs research and the NFP broader organization through participation on expert panels, speaking engagements, stakeholder events, and external and internal opportunities.

Work collaboratively with CIRIs Center for Toxicological Sciences, Exposure Laboratory as well as other research and standards groups within our broader internal organization.

 

What makes you a great fit:

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, Chemistry, or Biomedical Sciences required plus 12 years of post-graduate experience with proven research, publications, and grant success.
  • Experience in exposure detection, source modeling, global field studies, sensor technologies, data acquisition and predictive modeling.
  • Educational experiences through academic teaching or professional development and delivering technical presentations
  • Publication achievement in peer reviewed scientific journals
  • Experience in global field studies
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills required.
  • Good interpersonal and experience in stakeholder relationships

Must be a self-starter and possess excellent leadership qualities
