The main responsibility of the Managing Director in Korea is to establish a streamlined management infrastructure within Korea to meet business goals aligned to a One UL framework.  The role holder will work closely with business stakeholders to provide planning, leadership, and guidance in accordance with the goals and objectives established by the Asia Pacific and Middle East Africa Region Leader and Revenue Management. Seeks new business opportunities to develop core programs and services within Korea. Develops and expands UL’s influence and business presence in accordance with the global strategic goals.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Establish and execute a management infrastructure throughout Korea that maintains and grows local sales and market opportunities for UL services
  • Oversee the execution of commercial strategies that enable the Testing, Inspection & Certification and Advisory businesses expand throughout Korea, in close collaboration and full alignment with Revenue Management
  • Own targeted engagement of government regulatory agencies and key industry associations
  • Supply M&A/strategic partnership scanning support and assist local integration activities
  • Supply input to Asian regional footprint strategies
  • Oversee the management infrastructure within Korea that efficiently collaborates with other UL operations and ultimately delivers on a global One UL way of working that is attentive to local markets and needs
  • Implement cross-business UL growth strategies and priorities within Korea, aligning with the new strategy and in close collaboration with Revenue Management
  • Drive local-for-local new services and hunt for new business, aligning UL Corporate strategy and in close collaboration with Revenue Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customer executives and cultivate new local relationships to increase UL’s share of existing customer spending on their certification, performance testing and related needs
  • Act as the ground-level face of UL within Korea
  • Ensure region-wide application of employee health/safety protocols and EHS compliance
  • Provide a single point of ownership for site leadership in region, overseeing site management activities and building and maintaining a site leader network within the region
  • Attend Leadership and Board meetings upon request to present strategies and business plans
  • Incorporate Leadership and Board meeting feedback
  • Establish personal relationships and build trusted credibility with Board members, UL leaders, and global personnel
  • Partner with Government Affairs to maintain influential relationships with government and regulatory stakeholders
  • Build and develop close alliances with key industry associations
  • Interact with key customers and influential stakeholders within Korea
  • Attend industry events and network with key customers and influential stakeholders.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience leading complex commercial functions; strong preference for an individual with experience in Sales, Marketing, and/or Analytics in dynamic manufacturing and engineering sectors from electrical, electronics, telecom or similar technology-based industries.
