What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Partners with the IT Delivery leaders, Enterprise Architecture, Technology, and projects stakeholders to identify, support, and analyze the business’ need for data management practices and data governance capabilities to determine how to best drive business value.
  • Develops a company-wide vision, strategy, and roadmap for Data Governance capabilities. This will include:
    • Capturing and refining the business drivers including the policies and standards, business and technical metadata, data lineage, data profiling, data quality rules, and data remediation requirements.
    • Collaborates closely with business leaders and to implement data management and governance policies and standards with capabilities like data modeling, data security, data ownership/stewardship, business metadata capture and data quality rules.
    • Defines the overall data management and governance goals, principles, policies, and standards of the enterprise.
    • Establishes appropriate data management and governance best practices, processes, and requirements.
    • Responsible for defining enterprise data standards associated with data modeling, data security, business and technical metadata and data quality.
    • Provide a strategy, roadmap and set of plans for data management and governance services and capabilities.
  • Develops a company-wide vision, strategy, and roadmap for Master Data Management (MDM) capabilities. This will include:
    • Capturing and refining the business drivers including the source data, profiling, de-duplication, cleansing, enrichment, data quality, security, usage, and integration requirements.
    • Collaborates closely with business leaders and to implement master data management policies and standards with capabilities like data profiling, de-duplication, enrichment, and data quality.
    • Defines the overall master data management goals, principles, policies and standards of the enterprise.
    • Establishes appropriate master data management best practices, processes and requirements.
    • Responsible for defining enterprise data standards associated with data profiling, de-duplication, enrichment, and data quality.
    • Provide a strategy, roadmap and set of plans for master data management services and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other IT leaders to fulfill the IT vision of delivering and governing a world-class integrated information and technology platform for growth to enable UL’s mission.
  • Navigates the IT organization effectively - knows where, how, when and with whom to interact to drive results
  • Collaborates with other IT leaders to prioritize master data management needs to ensure their team’s resources are aligned to the most critical work.
  • Administration/Technical ownership of cloud-based application platforms for Master Data Management, e.g. Informatica MDM.
  • Leverages best practices to develop innovative ways to integrate master data management across the enterprise and between various operational and analytic solutions.
  • Keep IT Delivery, Architecture and Technology leaders aware of key data issues, identifying and resolving potential problems and conflicts.
  • Focuses on developing talent and building a high performing team.
  • Acts to assure the integrity and security of information technologies and/or systems.  Understands and follows the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Develops and reviews capital and expense budgets for assigned operations. 
  • Leverages UL IT metrics to ensure quality, timely and consistent delivery
  • Owns the overall quality of IT services and solutions for the IT data governance team.
  • Data Management and Governance strategy, policies, and procedures.
  • Data management and governance technology roadmap in partnership with Enterprise Architecture

What makes you a great fit:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience with document management, production, forms-management, content authoring/management technologies, capabilities, and solutions within diverse heterogenous environments.
  • Experience serving as an IT leader with budgetary responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Analytics, or a related discipline. Masters degree in related area preferred.
  • Advanced level knowledge and understanding in concepts related to structured and unstructured data, documents, and content management.
  • Experience leading and managing large IT teams
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments required.
  • Experience as a global leader with the ability to communicate/influence culturally diverse people.
  • Experience leading or participating in cross-functional digital and data transformation projects
  • Experience with document and content management principles, policies, standards, and technologies
  • Subject matter expert knowledge of emerging data management products and services.
  • Ability to develop and integrate new ideas and initiatives that improve the performance of the organization
  • Possess analytical and problem-solving skills
