As our global footprint continues to grow, we are looking for a HVAC Project Engineer to join our team in Newton, IA!

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Works with customer to determine project scope, including applicable programs and standards by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
  • Develops a preliminary plan of investigation, project cost, project duration, and sample requirements.
  • Projects may include travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
  • Works with sales to initiate and follow up on communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services. 
  • Must become familiar with applicable standards, company manuals and appropriate technical literature.
  • Examines test results for compliance with various energy standards and notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance or of any changes in project scope or specifications.
  • Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of laboratory technicians and engineering assistants, and establishing completion dates.
  • Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. May serve as Project Handler of record and/or Reviewer of record as assigned, for which internal certification must be attained.
  • Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports. 
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Assists in developing new test methods and test equipment.
  • May represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
  • Writing reports, read and interpret test procedures, review test reports from other project handlers.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to ISO17025 procedures as applicable.
  • Responsibilities may change and evolve to accommodate market needs.

What makes you a great fit:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or similar engineering discipline
  • Four years’ minimum experience, preferably working with consumer products and lab equipment
  • At least one year project management experience
  • Experience working with customers to define project scope and produce a quote
  • Experience presenting project results directly to customers
  • Experience in using Excel and formulas
  • Ability to create and execute project schedules
  • Being flexible in daily activities
  • Familiarity in test equipment is a plus
  • Great communication skills
