What you’ll learn & achieve:

The Analyst Rotation Program will provide the candidate the opportunity to contribute to UL’s growing renewables advisory team while learning skills across multiple technical areas. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with a can-do spirit and willingness to work hard in a team environment to achieve shared success.


The candidate will rotate across 3 areas within the wind advisory team over the course of 4 to 5 years. The initial placement will be either with the energy assessment team or the technical due diligence team with a third rotation based on discussions with the candidate (potential areas of focus include power performance testing, energy storage, permitting, turbine engineering, etc.).


The program aims to equip the candidate with a strong foundation based in renewable energy and consulting practices. The candidate will learn essential communication, project management, and technical skills. Successful candidates will continue their career within UL’s renewables team based on these acquired skills.


The two initial rotations include:


Project Engineer Associate – Energy Assessment (1.5 – 2 years)


This Energy Analyst rotation will focus on meteorological data analysis and energy modeling for onshore and offshore wind projects in support of the completion of bankable energy production assessments.


Primary duties will include:

  • Validation and analysis of meteorological data for wind resource assessments.
  • Evaluation of project constraints, risks, and other non-quantitative aspects of plant development.
  • Design and optimization of wind plants to meet project requirements.
  • Estimation of plant losses and calculation of assessment uncertainties.
  • Provide effective critical review of data, analyses and reports prepared by other staff.
  • Collaborate effectively with team leads, and project managers to execute on work scopes within budgets.
  • Understand and ensure company quality control standards are met.
  • Assist with the development of procedures and methods.
  • Participate in informal and formal departmental training activities.
  • Review industry and related resources including conference proceedings, journal articles, and other printed/online publications to keep current on industry trends, techniques, and products.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  Associate Project Manager – Due Diligence (1.5 – 2 years)


The Associate Project Manager rotation will be responsible for supporting independent engineering (IE) and technical advisory (TA) services with respect to the financing, sale, or acquisition of renewables projects.


Primary duties will include:

  • Alongside senior members, support high profile Independent Engineering and Technical Advisory projects for project financing, tax equity, sales and acquisitions of wind and solar projects and portfolios, including overseeing turbine technology review, civil and electrical design review, review of commercial and technical contracts, project schedule, project financial model, CAPEX and OPEX costs, environmental and permitting review, site visits and construction monitoring.
  • Compile and complete IE and TA reports and summarize key results and conclusions. Ensure a quality of work that meets and exceeds client expectations. Integrate all review sections from UL’s multi-disciplinary team and ensure that UL’s technical and commercial analysis is consistent throughout sections.
  • With support from senior members, work with lenders and developers as the main client interface for UL. Attend client meetings with lenders and developers as needed. Engage clients and internal staff to develop creative solutions to meet client needs; provide exceptional customer service with a focus of growing client relationships.
  • Review of project contracts and financial models.
  • Perform site visits during construction and operation and perform construction monitoring site visits to review progress against technical specifications, budget and milestone schedule. Compile and review site visit reports and monthly construction monitoring reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What makes you a great fit:

  • Minimum Bachelors-level education and core competence in a relevant field, e.g., atmospheric science, engineering, construction management, operations and maintenance.
  • Previous related expereince is a plus.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team environmental and successfully manage multiple complicated projects.
