    Reporting to the Head of Social Strategy and Operations, this position is focused on the support of strategies and processes for UL’s enterprise social media channels. The Social Media Marketing Specialist will, with guidance, develop, manage and execute on social media tasks to support strategic communications for UL. This role requires a mix of editorial and project management skills, along with the communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships across functional roles and business divisions globally. Success in this role will require frequent collaboration with colleagues from Analytics, Brand, Business Unit marketing and Corporate Communications.


    The ideal candidate is an inquisitive learner who possesses excellent editorial and communication skills. S/he has experience in evaluating and publishing digital content for a diverse range of audiences and is an enthusiastic adopter and user of digital communications technology (including social media channels). S/he is skilled at communicating with colleagues across functions and demonstrates the ability to ask questions, solve problems and – with direction  –  to bring tasks to completion. This role will be required to review, edit and publish communications copy and graphics to ensure appropriateness for social channels, consistency of UL brand messaging, positioning, and value proposition, while applying best practices for social media audiences and campaigns. Additionally, s/he is committed to ongoing learning, and keeps abreast of best practices and communications industry trends, in order to best support the company’s marketing and business strategy.



    • In coordination with others on the social media team, support a social media publishing calendar to ensure balance of messaging across audiences, channels and business goals.
    • Manage workflow of inbound social publishing request for the UL enterprise channels.
    • With direction, review, schedule and publish outbound posts through social channels as dictated by business marketers’ campaign needs and by publishing calendar.
    • As necessary, suggest posts to other UL channels, such as regional or industry-specific channels.
    • With direction, use social media best practices to review post language, use appropriate hashtags, and apply knowledge of audience to target appropriately and enhance engagement.
    • Support social listening and reporting initiatives for stakeholders, in coordination with the corporate marketing operations team.
    • Assist with supporting the strategy for development and execution of paid social campaigns.
    • Work with Creative Services to maintain database of appropriate imagery in social publishing tool, including templates and headshots.
    • In coordination with team, support regular internal communications and training initiatives around social media best practices and updates, including support of regular updates to the social media SharePoint site and BrandHub.
    • Coordinate with marketing operations analytics resources to deliver actionable insights around social marketing initiatives to the business.


    • BS/BA degree (preferably in a liberal arts discipline, public relations, or marketing), or equivalent experience
    • At least four years of professional experience in a communications-related role
    • Demonstrated ability to engage appropriately with different teams and roles inside a distributed professional organization (ideally, experience in a global organization)
    • Demonstrated ability to use social media and other digital publishing channels appropriately
    • Ability to understand and translate technical and scientific topics into digestible language in a variety of formats
    • Top-notch responsiveness and communication skills: presentation, verbal, writing, editing
    • Ability to engage in multiple projects while delivering high-quality output and maintaining a great attention to detail and customer service
    • Values innovation and flexibility; proactive, motivated and a self-starter
    • Think strategically, execute programs against timelines and meet commitments
    • Proficiency in standard office applications, project management platforms and other communication tools
