    The Manager of Regulatory & Safety Engineering leads a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver regulatory and safety expertise to major global CPG brands.  Provides advisory support to our clients throughout the entire product development lifecycle (e.g., design, engineering, manufacturing, consumer).  Leverages the enterprises regulatory and safety science expertise to support companies design their product for safety and compliance; gaining access into the global marketplace.


    Position requires strong hands-on ability, independent judgment, vision, strong leadership, prioritization of tasks, and communication skills. Works closely and cooperatively with cross-functional teams (e.g., Regulatory Affairs, Testing Laboratories, etc.) and other UL business divisions to achieve corporate objectives and ensure customer satisfaction.

    • Implements and executes capacity and capability strategies. Assists Industry Lead in the development of innovative solutions  by sharing operational, customer and market intelligence.
    • Fosters workflow in area of direct influence, regionally and globally. Manages costs in accordance with assigned budget. May be required to travel (domestic & internationally) and manage remote staff globally.
    • Strategic thought leader in helping transform the team as a recognized Center of Excellence within the organization.
    • Accountable for the process and development of new/revised safety specifications to address identified emerging hazards and mitigate product risk.
    • Leads continuous improvement initiatives to identify efficiencies with internal operations as well as external processes.
    • Manages the performance of team members. Defines accountabilities. Establishes performance objectives. Establishes employee/team performance measures and goals in support of the global vision.
    • Recognizes and work well with various cultural styles and adept at communication in a clear and accurate manner to our partners globally.
    • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to various levels of management and clients.
    • Communicates and exemplifies UL’s Vision and Mission. Leads employees to openly suggest, promote and embrace change.

    • Performs other duties as directed.


    • University degree (equivalent to a Bachelors degree) in Business Administration, Management, Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Chemical, etc.) or related field is required.
    • Ten years directly related experience, including generally five years of relevant management/leadership experience.
    • Solid experience as lead or participant in cross-functional or global projects, or worked in multiple functions or regions.
    • Ability to read and comprehend technical and regulatory information, and strategically apply in a complex business and regulatory environment.
    • Demonstrates an advanced understanding of how decisions impact business results, management concepts such as effectively building a diverse team and planning and thinking strategically.
    • Must have experience within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry and products intended for children (e.g., toys, juvenile products). 
    • Capable  to support clients design their products for safety, quality and compliance. 
    • Candidate to have knowledge regarding the product development lifecycle (design, engineering, manufacturing, consumer).
    • Expert knowledge of global toy regulatory and safety compliance requirements (g., CPSIA, ASTM F963, EN71, ISO 8124, CCPSA).
    • Knowledge of design/process FMEAs, process control plans, chemical management and/or supply chain management a plus.
    • Experience with ISO9001, ISO14001 and/or ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 a plus.
