    UL is currently seeking a UX/UI Designer to join our team in Northbrook, IL!


    In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with our UL specific portals, enhancing our existing applications to create a user-friendly experience. You will be responsible for researching, interviewing, and designing based on user needs. A successful UX/UI Designer will have a working knowledge of design applications and prototyping software, excellent written and verbal communication, comfortable interviewing and gaining an understanding of needs, and strives in a fast-paced environment.

    Additional responsibilities include:


    • Develop UL customer-facing applications, corporate applications and portals.
    • Deliver customized information, resources, and self-service applications to a global audience.
    • Maintain UL intranet, extranets, and business systems and plays a critical role in design and implementation of new features.
    • Support project managers, developers, and business analysts with enhancing current resources.
    • Work with various technical information teams to understand technology limitations and how implementation decisions impact user experience in terms of browser compatibility, accessibility, internalization, usability and performance.
    • Support User Experience Research and Design in selected projects and applications.
    • Implement and improves CSS standards, UX strategy, and incorporates RIA elements when prudent.
    • Gather requirements by analyzing target audience, objectives , user needs, and business needs.
    • Develop user scenarios, navigational structures, sitemaps, user/task flows, and wireframes.
    • Create graphical prototypes and interactive simulations to present concepts.
    • Use knowledge of Section 508 accessibility compliance when applicable.
    • Conduct UX research including; usability testing (local and remote), multi variant and A/B tests, heuristic analysis, contextual inquiry, ethnography, card sorting, gap analysis, and competitive benchmarks.
    • Create user interface design within established architectural and product standards. Considers navigation and information architecture as it applies to solutions.
    • Design web pages using the latest technologies and products (such as HTML, CS2, JavaScript, ActionScript, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Visio, XML, AJAX or XSLT).
    • Designs applications and portals while adhering to existing brand and UX standards. Tests new developments for UXD acceptance.


    • University degree in a related field (HCI, Human Factors Design, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Information Technology), plus general 5 years of directly related design experience.
    • Good understanding of the (enterprise) software lifecycle and the role of UX/UI design throughout the lifecycle.
    • Proficient with design and prototype software such as Photoshop, InVision, Marvel, etc.
    • Hands-on experience with front-end concepts (grid-systems, responsive design, etc.), technologies (CSS/JS/HTML), and frameworks (Angular 2).
