    The Appliances Test Technician is responsible for conducting performance and energy efficiency testing on major appliances while using complicated equipment and test setups. These may include tests without published requirements, or those involving unique features that requires use of independent judgment. Initiates recommendations for new equipment designs. Provides feedback regarding tests and assist in development of laboratory procedure guides. Provides training and assist others in the laboratory.


    Additional Responsibilities:       

    • Operates appliances under specified test conditions and observe instruments such as data acquisition systems, watt meter, water flow meters, stop watches, tachometers, computers and scales; remaining alert for unexpected occurrences and recognizing both desired and undesired appliance functions and characteristics.
    • Conducts test with minimal supervision within the defined limits of responsibility. Examines test samples and read measuring instruments, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions. Evaluates test performance, provides feedback regarding issues and/or problems with test data sheets, and reviews test and construction data with supervisor.
    • Reads and interpret results of tests and preparing accurate complete and concise reports to reflect significant facts, including use of computer programs, spreadsheets, graphics, and creating new spreadsheets. Maintaining accurate records of test procedures and conditions. Prepare charts, graphs, reports, etc., to accurately portray test results.
    • Collaborates with personnel on designs of product, test setup/installation, and test fixtures.
    • Monitor inventory of sample products and calibrated equipment. Communicates with personnel to offer suggestions pertinent to equipment needs and arranges for designated disposal of samples upon completion of tests.
    • Records observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and prepares data sheets and test reports.
    • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
    • Responsible for shipping and receiving of sample products.
    • Installing sample products in the lab stations.
    • Responsible for coordinating and assisting with scheduled maintenance of calibrated/testing equipment within the lab.
    • Performs other duties as directed.


    • Associates Degree plus generally one year of related experience.
    • Attention to detail and proactive attitude.
    • Must be able to lift 40 pounds unassisted.
    • Must be able to bend and stoop for 100% of the time.
    • Strong math and computer skills. Experience with Lotus Notes, MS Excel, MS word is preferred.
    • Strong oral and written communication.
    • Work schedule may vary. Start and end time may change based on business needs.
    • Experience with LabVIEW a plus.
    • Experience in logistics and/or shipping and receiving a plus.
    • Able to work in a team environment to keep testing schedule.
    • Understanding of the operation of appliances and consumer needs.
    • Some travel may be required with this position (up to 10%).
