    Responsibilities

    This Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing timely and effective global internal communications programs to support UL’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) business unit. The core function of this role is to keep C&I staff (and enterprise-level staff, where applicable) informed of important and relevant ongoings related to business transformation efforts, BU strategy and objectives, key initiatives and more. In doing this, the role will support and promote employee engagement, create a higher performance culture and raise the profile of C&I within the enterprise and among key internal stakeholders. It supports C&I leadership in developing and executing all internal communications strategies and plans. Additionally, this position is responsible for working in close collaboration with BU Human Resources as well as division, region and corporate communications. This position will represent C&I internal communications on the leadership teams for various business programs and change management efforts. This role will also participate in the global internal communications community. 

     

    • STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS
      • Develops and executes internal communications plans and activities that are aligned with the company’s mission, vision and values as well as the business unit’s strategy and objectives, and/or various division strategies and objectives
      • Tailors communications to meet the needs of various internal client needs
      • Leads, drives and executes all internal communications for C&I’s transformation and change management initiatives including time-critical operational updates for key business applications
      • Builds strong relationships with C&I senior leadership and additional stakeholders to understand their business functions and formulate appropriate strategies and messages to achieve those objectives
    • OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS
      • Manages internal communications budget and leads agency relationships
      • Assists in communicating organizational initiatives and activities such as lab openings, employee updates, corporate events and internal UL meetings/events
      • Provides guidance and support to all functions across the C&I business unit
      • Manages and produces all internal webcasts and broadcasts
    • OVERSIGHT & MANAGEMENT OF INTERNAL TOOLS/PROPERTIES
      • Develops and manages content for C&I’s SharePoint platform, internal newsletters, leadership updates and more
      • Ensures global staff is kept up-to-date on BU and industry-specific initiatives, news, events
    • METRICS & ANALYTICS
      • Tracks and measures annual internal communications spend to ensure positive return-on-investment
      • Monitors and analyzes standard metrics/KPIs on successes and levels of internal stakeholder engagement: digital site traffic, open-rates, click-through rates, impressions, surveys/polling, etc.

    Qualifications

    • BS/BA degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field, plus generally 8+ years of related experience.
    • Experience in a B2B professional services environment is preferred.
    • Experience working in a global communications role for a complex matrix organization across several global regions highly preferred
    • Ability to understand technical and scientific issues and ability to translate complex information for non-scientific audiences
    • Strong capabilities in developing and maintaining relationships with senior leaders
    • Change management communications experience
    • Top-notch communication skills: presentation, verbal, writing, editing
    • Experience managing and/or using a wide array of internal communications tools
    • Values innovation and flexibility, is proactive, motivated and a self-starter
    • Proven ability to lead and engage, especially across regions, in virtual environments and where there may not be direct reporting lines
    • Thinks strategically, executes programs against timelines and meets commitments
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with high quality and exceptional customer service
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience managing and/or using a wide array of internal communications tools
    • Proficiency managing/developing/maintaining SharePoint sites in 0365
    • Performs other duties as directed
